I see some posts about Emmitt Williams likely becoming a Tiger next year. I see he's about 6'7 which is SF size, but his position is listed as PF. I tried to watch some of his videos, but the stuff I see is pretty much just dunk contest stuff and him swatting other people's shots. Can he play the 3 successfully? I do have a good knowledge of basketball terminology, so feel free to use it if necesssary

He's an explosive raw athlete with NBA level athleticism, but he needs to develop as a skilled basketball player. He reminds me a bit of a shorter Tyrus Thomas without quite the shot blocking ability. He could be a VERY good rebounder, post defender and guy who could get garbage buckets. He's not someone you're going to ask to step out and knock down 3's or handle the ball

Would Rico gathers be a comparable player possibly? I haven’t watched his highlights so I’m just asking. Also to OP 6’7 in college is not a SF for most programs tbh.

Tyrus Thomas single handedly made the team great when he was here.

Ronald Dupree was 6'7" and he was one of the best PFs in program history.

You never know. Elton brand was probably about that size in college and absolutely dominated as a power forward. He did have some crazy wingspan though, no clue if williams does too

I’ve been wondering this as well. If we add Williams along with Days and Reid, that’s 3 power forwards - 2 of whom are 6’7”. Is one of them capable of moving to small forward? Are some of these guys going to sit a lot next year, or will there be heavy rotation? Guys like these don’t come to sit. How do we utilize all of these power forwards?

he only played pf bc the team was awful. I'm still ticked he got robbed on all conference 1st team, though. Led conference in scoring and rebounding.

He played pf because he didn't really have the handle to play much on the wing. He had insane athleticism, though, which made him really good on the glass. He also had one of the most impressive blocks I have ever seen.

That was absurd. I think that was his sophomore year. I think he was second in points, actually, but very close to the leader. He has a slight dip his Junior year, but was still top 3 in both categories. Again deserved 1st team, but got screwed.

His senior year is when Lloreda came in and kind of stole the block from anyone on the court with him.

Reid will play the 4 and 5. He’s gonna be 250+ once the season starts, so he is built more like a C then a PF anyway. Days is undersized but a good all around player. Not an elite athlete but can shoot and defend and he plays with a high motor. He’s an ideal program guy. Williams is an elite athlete who plays incredibly hard which makes him great at all the little things.

Lazy comparisons for the 3:
Reid- Demarcus Cousins
Days- Draymond Green
Williams- Kenneth Faried

Yea, that team was loaded by any metric. 3 multi-year NBA guys and another who was darn close. Not to mention Darrell Mitchell who was an absolute scorer and so clutch.

Days has an advanced game offensively. Kid has a great high arcing shot and will shoot a high percentage from 3. Kid can score.

I'm sure he will need work defensively, and he is not the explosive athlete Williams is.

In short, offensively skilled 6'7" that I think Wade said will play the 4 in his system.

LINK This game he was matched up against one of the most-ready-for-NBA players I've ever seen in HS. Williamson is no joke and Emmitt played him as good as any HSchooler can. Emmitt's perimeter defense is good but his interior defense is a little better. He's active on the board and has very good athletic ability. I haven't seen him play with his back to the basket much, he mostly has faced the basket. He can handle the ball good and has a quick first step. He is going to fit in Wade's system perfectly. I'd say his game will resemble Rachells (IDK if that's spelled correctly) except Emmitt is a better athlete, is quicker and can jump higher and can handle the ball better. With Emmitt, Naz, Darius and Javonta along with the returning players, LSU is going to be hell to stop and extremely difficult to score on. There will be more man-to-man defense next season. A lot of steals and a lot of oops.

It's not unheard of for an athletic 6'7 guy to play PF and dominate in the college ranks. Look at Maten for Georgia - he's 6'8 on his best day and he's pulling in 20/10 this season. Coulson at Notre Dame is a midget and he is on numerous post-season award watchlists.
