The twins are gone, but they already have a top SG, and the top PG signed...

No one knows. Coach Cal already told Ulis he wants to build a team around him (presumably at PG) and Briscoe the #1PG in the class committed, there still won't be very many opportunities for Newman to play the point there. However, he would be a good SG at UK.

If he wants to play PG, he probably should come here. All our guards are combo guards that allow a lot of players to bring the ball down the court and he could be a focal point of our offense if he comes

That was my line of thinking. Unless Cal can convince him to play SG, I don't see why Booker leaving is the icing on the cake for them getting Newman.

Depending on how they finish, I think Kentucky is going to be VERY underwhelming next year, especially if they miss on Newman

The question at that point will still be whether or not they'll still be in the Top 10 in the preseason. I did feel that UK was ranked a tad high to start off the year after AD and MKG left.

Basically every undeclared 5 star is considering Kentucky

The problem for us is they are going to need Newman badly. I think they will be outside the Top 10 even if they get Newman.

Looking at the other uncommitted:

Thon Maker: Overseas. Clearinghouse would have a field day if he signed with any college.
Jaylen Brown: UCLA or Cal (if package deal comes through)
Ivan Rabb: Cal (if package deal comes through) or Arizona
Caleb Swanigan: Cal (if package deal comes through) or Kentucky
Stephen Zimmerman:Kentucky or Kansas. UNLV has a shot too
Cheick Diallo: Kansas, Iowa State or St. John's. Also, we may crank up the heat here soon
Brandon Ingram: UNC or Duke

Just looking at that, they will need to crank up the heat on some since they are only really returning Ulis, Poythress and Lee

While I know UK has been a good program for one and done guys to go to, they will have no veterans next year (outside of Ulis a So). They will not be able to do an international tour like they did this past year due to only getting 1 every 4 years.

Even if you are a stud in HS, I'd think you'd want some leadership already on the roster. That is something that worries me about UK.

LSU is returning a ton of upperclassmen with leadership qualities. The two players we lose were quiet and not really leader type people. Newman would do well at LSU.

Devin Booker leaving probably sealed the deal for them. That's what I've been hearing.

Could mean UK isn't going to be the usual UK squad next year. He should come to LSU and play with Ben and Tone.....

While it's certainly not likely, there is still a shot.

Not in the slightest. UK has always been in the picture, but had the Harrison twins and Booker stayed, I think LSU would have been the favorite.

These kids know that they are 1 and done. He isn't interested in building a program. Simmons and Blakenly have been in his ear all year. That's not to be dismissed.

This is their roster next year...

A lot of PG's there. Even if Cal tells him he can play PG, he is just lying to him... He needs him off ball.

I agree. If they stayed than we had a better chance. But let's not forget that we didn't really become a major player in landing him until Ben and Antonio committed, UK has always been 1 are 2 with him.

They are gonna need a haul or they may not finish in the top 25

I know Cal has said he'd rather play 7 to 8 rather than the 10 he had to play last year, but they are missing some pieces...

I mean that is still 5 - 5 star players and a high 4 star, but off guard depth is low for Cal... Really what I'm getting at is they will likely try and get Malik in by dangling PG time over his head, but he will play exclusively off the ball.

The biggest question is whether he is willing to sacrifice playing off the ball for a slightly better chance to win a championship. He knows that if he comes to LSU he will be taking the ball up the court whenever he wants.

Oh? I haven't heard this....and we are not on his list. Has he expressed ANY interest in LSU?
