Cajuns are in a bad spot this coming year but with that said I feel like that will be the case with most G5 schools going forward. It will be an audition to show out and move up to a program that can contend for a title. I don't really see a way the Cajuns are competitive this coming year.

I think you are correct, G5 schools will be used by the P5 as areas to scout for players that were not properly evaluated coming out of HS and developed to legitimate P5 players who have an NFL draft grade. The Portal is College Free Agency.
Personally, this is an area where the NCAA can regulate. The Portal should not be open for a player until his team has completed its season. So effectively we are talking about December 1 for most teams, January 1 for everyone else save the 2 CFP finalist (January 10). That gives everyone a chance to hit the portal and get a spot before classes start in January and go through spring ball with their new team. The Portal should be open till July 31. Once Fall Practice starts, Portal is closed again till December 1 again, etc,
