Shouldn't wait until Martin & Mickey's decision before we target a few big men that can contribute early. Won't be many still uncommitted that will consider us that late in the process.

Because they don't want to take a marginal player. They finished 2nd for Elijah Thomas, but LSU hasn't gotten serious interest from any other top post.

If we do get someone else, it'll be a late bloomer, juco guy, or possibly even a graduate transfer.

Just watched lyle's hoopmix, a lineup with Lyle PG, blakeney SG, Simmons SF, Martin PF, and Mickey C would be the most talented and versatile lineup in college.

There's little doubt. Too much "star power"?

Our bench would be Quarterman, Courtney, Hornsby, Grey....wow

I think Martin leaves, and Mickey stays. We get Simmons, Blakeney, Lyle and McVeigh. Starting five will be Gray, Tone, Quan, Benny and Mickey. Off the bench we have Patterson, Tim, Hornsby, Epps and a vastly improved Robinson. Jack plays a swiss army knife role while Malone and Bridge help pitch in on the blocks. That's a team with championship potential if we can get big Elbert to come around by next March, which I think will happen with all of the practice sessions against Benny. I would bet that Darcy improves a good bit as well because he'll also be practicing against maybe the best big man in America.

Gray hasn't been that great this year. He had some good games but he's a turnover machine. He defiantly will take a hit in minted if Lyle comes

Don't get me wrong, I'm a little bit concerned about post play because of the potential for foul trouble and having to rely on a kid as unpolished as Elbert early in the season. But we just have to trust that Coach Leonard will have him ready to go by the time we get to the tournament. And we all have to remember that the tournament is about guard play. We'll have a three guard lineup who can all consistently get into the paint and get quality shots whenever they want and put opposing teams in foul trouble. We'll be a nightmare to defend.

I fully expect that Gray's turnovers will decrease next season when Tone and Jaquan come in and take some of the pressure off of him. I think our best lineup this season will have Timmy starting at the three for that exact reason, but we desperately need his production off the bench.

It just seems like he's trying to do too much for no reason at all. He's not the entire team. He doesn't need to be. All we need of Grey is:

1) Refrain from being a liability
2) Pass the ball to his more than capable teammates
3) Drive to the basket when the opportunity is there.
4) Make and occasional three pointer when there is LESS than 10 seconds on the shot clock.

Yeah, well he WAS the team last year in juco and he played on an awful Texas tech team the year before. He's just going to have to make the adjustment to playing with talent around him. Hopefully sooner than later but he should be good by next season at least.

If by chance Coach Jones can't convince Mickey to come back I really hope he goes after Thomas Bryant. He was Lyle's teammate at Huntington Prep last year and is an absolute man-child. I can't link his highlights from my phone right now but I would encourage anyone to go check him out on YouTube.

It's real late to just start recruiting these guys who have been recruited by other teams since possibly their sophomore season

The funny thing is that's pretty much what Hickey did last season, and people around here wanted him run out of town.

Gray's issue is that he is constantly trying to make the "highlight" play instead of just the fundamental play. That's led to most of the TOs. Lazy "no look" passes to covered teammates instead of just facilitating the offense; Trying to beat pressure solely with the dribble; trying to get a steal instead of just trying to keep his man from driving the lane.

He's capable of making great plays. However, instead of just letting those opportunities come in the natural flow of the game he's hurting his team by trying to force things when they aren't there

What happened to Alex Owens? I know he signed with providence but he named us his leader at some point, he's teammates with tone and I think he played aau with Simmons too. Would've been a nice pick up at PF

Tigerfan 95- It's really not too late when you've got Simmons, Tone and possibly Lyle already on board. Any smart big man would want to play with that lineup because he would know they'd have a chance to win a national championship and go ridiculously high in the draft in the same year.

I believe we backed off. If you watched him play AAU he was so far behind everyone else, a bit overrated as a prospect IMO.

From what I saw he's a physical and athletic forward. Maybe that's all he's got but I would think he would be a good energy guy helping on defense and getting rebounds

Gray has been just fine this year, at most he can cut back on a bout 1 more turnover a game. He's at 3.5 turnovers a game and if he can get that down to 2.5 he's already at almost 5 assists a game which is a 2:1 ratio.

When you look at his other stats he's playing very efficient. Shooting 43.8% from the floor and 36.4% from 3, those are good numbers for a PG. He's taken only the 5th most amount of shots on the team, so he's hardly ball hogging. He's only scoring 10 points per game but if he's being efficient doing it I see no reason why he needs to suddenly try and become a superstar. I think some people saw his JUCO scoring output and thought he would come in and average like 16-20 ppg here. With Mickey, Martin and the emergence of Horsnby and Quarterman; there's simply been no need for Gray to be anything other than a distributor and efficient shot taker which he's doing well except for losing the ball slightly more than you'd like out of a PG.

Hickey only shot 36.8%/34.4% last season, only had 3.6 assists (to Gray's 4.9) but was a unprecedented in his ability to not turn the ball over (1.3 TO PG)

Yeah. He's closer to 6'7 and a back to the basket PF. GREAT rebounder and really good defender but his offense was quite behind. With the fish LSU are doing after, he just isn't the same level or fit. Not sure he's overrated. Everyone knows what he is. He'll do quite nicely in college but never be a real game changer until his offense catches up.
