Thoughts on our OLine?

What is the ideal depth for an OLine these days?
-just going for numbers, here.
Would you add a couple more OT's, if they are worth an offer?
Some will say, 'what does depth matter if the guys behind, can't play anyway?'
In a perfect world, all players given an offer were deemed worthy enough to contribute at some point, hence their offer.
So here is 2013's Oline. Change it all you like. Weights are based on projected Fall arrival...not current.
T
Vadal Alexander 6-6 320 so
Derek Edinburgh 6-7 320 fr
Jonah Austin 6-5 320 so
G
La’el Collins 6-4 315 jr
Josh Boutte 6-4 310 fr*
Andy Dodd 6-3 315 fr*
C
Elliot Porter 6-4 300 jr
Fehoko Fanaika 6-6 330 jr
Karl Malone Jr. 6-4 300 fr*
G
Josh Williford 6-7 330 sr
Trai Turner 6-2 335 so
T
Jerald Hawkins 6-5 290 so
Evan Washington 6-5 315 jr may not ever play after showing promise as a rs frosh
Ethan Pocic 6-6 290 fr*
Are there any position moves projected?
Like Jordan Allen or Tevin Lawson?....heard they could interchange for OL.

IMO if the idea is to get the best players on the field we would slide Collins over to LT and move Williford over to LG. This allows for a stronger second team as well, with Hawkins-Austin-Fanakia-Boutte-Edinburgh.
LT Collins - Hawkins/Pocic
LG Williford - Austin/Boutte
C Porter - Fanaika
RG Turner - Austin/Boutte
RT Alexander - Edinburgh Jr./Pocic
LT Collins - Hawkins/Pocic
LG Williford - Austin/Boutte
C Porter - Fanaika
RG Turner - Austin/Boutte
RT Alexander - Edinburgh Jr./Pocic

That's pretty nice list. We just need someone to step up at LT but there are a lot of really good, individual parts.

Has Hawkins made that much progress? I've been seeing his name toward the top of most projected depth charts for next season.

Fanika is not a center
Collins to LT Fanika starting guard he does not play center

My opinion would be this:
LT - Collins
LG - Fehoko or Williford
C - Porter
RG - Turner
RT - Alexander
I think that whoever doesn't start above, they'll be the first guy in much like Josh D was before Faulk's injury.

Is Evan Washington no longer with the team? I don't see him on anyone's depth chart.

To this staff, Collins is a guard.

This is what I think would be the strongest o-line setup
T: Collins
G: Alexander
C: Turner
G: Williford
T: Hawkins
T: Collins
G: Alexander
C: Turner
G: Williford
T: Hawkins

yes hes made a ton of progress, & has emerged as the best OL in the 2012 class behind vadal.
and hes actually listed as 6'6" 300lbs on lsusports.net & 247; which means that he could be up to roughly 310 come fall.
the redshirt did wonders for him

Absolutely! no way we put Collins at LT after what happened this year. Les and Co is way to invested in Collins as a run blocking guard IMO
I expect this to be starting OL:
LT - Hawkins
LG - Collins
C - Porter
RG- Turner
RT - Alexander

Good Lord that's a lot of beef on the line.
Posted on 1/10/13 at 3:27 pm to dstone12
Is it just me or does anyone else think vadal is a guard instead of tackle? I just don't think his feet are good enough to be on the outside. Collins is staying at guard from everything I'm hearing

Cool, and thanks for the input.
But the reason i put this on the RB is that, in the rant's opinion, should we go ahead and add more guys now; so we won't be in this situation two years from now?
