This is really starting to feel like a “depth” class

Not here to complain if we don’t end up with a top 4 recruiting class. Quite the opposite. One (out of many) emphasis that never seemed to come to fruition under O was creating a roster full of Louisiana players. It’s clear BK has prioritized creating and mending state-wide coach relationships, and he’s extending offers to players that wouldn’t have them from LSU at this stage of recruiting.

This class looks to be a development/depth class made up of Louisiana players is a great move for ‘24. Granted, we need to hit on some corners, but everywhere else feels much more stable. This lays the groundwork for that ‘25 class. With a handful of potential top 50 players, we gonna EAT.

Embody’s latest class prediction kinda says the same thing.

It’s a solid class but not elite. Would land somewhere around 7 or 8

I’m actually concerned with the lack of elite talent. It seems LSU can never break that barrier and recruit with UGA, Bama, Ohio State, etc. Development and coaching is great in winning, but it’s hard to compete for championships consistently when you don’t have the horses that other teams do.

It’s way too early to know how this all ends. So much changes when you start the season. I think they’re securing the class right now and will put the finishing touches on the class during the season. If LSU has a Heisman contender at QB, a huge year from a WR or two, a big season from the TEs, OL, and certain players on the DL and at LB then the recruiting could pick up quite a bit to end this class and start recruiting nationally on a bigger scale the following year. We don’t have too much hype or momentum at the moment, like some other schools but we still need to secure spots and get ready for the momentum that may or may not come. I think that’s what we seeing right now. The coaches are smart for getting ahead of whatever happens later on.

You can always adjust your class later on if the hype and momentum builds. You need to get ahead of it all so when the moment comes, you’re ready for it. Can’t bet on either outcome, just have to make the connections and recruit knowing your current profile. But also be ready for that possible change to come. I think that’s exactly what our coaches are currently doing.

Huh? It seems like LSU is in it for a ton of top flight players. Maybe I’m missing something.

What are you talking about…LSU just had the most talented and greatest team a few years back with an average coach. They’ve won with their last three coaches prior to Kelly. Literally the favorite to land the top defensive prospect in America for this recruiting cycle…some folk…

Change the coaches, change the culture, they all find out that at LSU it's always the same song and dance. Loaded state=top 5 push for top 3 class. Down state=perceptionally strong, solid classes(rankings)that get pawned off as "depth" classes in preparation for the next year's impending great one.
We scream to take the instate kids that bleed purple and gold then search for explanations when we take a real good look and realize our class isn't that strong. By that I mean top of the country, elite strong. Competing every year with no need for "depth" classes strong. Without expanding national like those we seek to be compared to, we relegate ourselves to potentially being great every 4-5 years like we have since 2003. I'm not complaining but I am asking for more.

Dude you’re talking about a team with Burrow who was a transfer. The point is LSU doesn’t consistently get top 3 classes like those teams. LSU doesn’t fill their 2 deep with high 4 and 5 stars like those teams. LSU’s 2 deep is usually not as talented front to back argue that all you want to but the truth is the truth. Some folk….

Edit: yes sure LSU is in it for a ton of 4 and 5 stars but we see every year they miss out on over half of them to the likes of Bama, UGA, Ohio State, etc. I’m just ready for this program to recruit with the elites there’s no reason LSU shouldn’t have the rosters those other teams do year in and year out not every 3-4 years.

Hard to get caught up in class rankings now days. Transfer portal = 10+ players in every class won’t end their career with who they sign with. Also means 10+ guys will transfer in and at least be in the rotation.. & very likely would’ve never known of them before hand

Agree. Its not impressive yet. But its early. How the season goes will matter. Especially for next years TP.

Too early to bitch about this

Also, the portal is more important than HS recruiting right now. until something changes that sprinkling depth alongside a few elite blue chips might be the way to recruit. Most end up leaving anyway.

LSU had a recruit in just this signing class leave before he even arrived to campus lol.

Embody should know better too. LSU going to make their camp evaluations then it will all fall into place. Remember last year? Sky is falling sky is falling. LSU made camp evaluations then boom recruiting blew up.

Our 2020 Class was ranked #4. It was a disaster.

Recruiting rankings are so political and subjective it's really hard for me to get moved by being ranked 7 instead of 4. If you are in the top 10, develop your players and are savvy in the portal to add depth and fill holes, you can compete for the CFP.

Do not discount that for the first time in a decade and a half we have a developer of talent at the helm.

My only concern is QB recruiting.

Idk why people are getting downvoted for pointing this out. Nothing is wrong saying there isn’t a lot too end talent in this class(there isn’t). Doesn’t mean this can’t be a good depth building class. Go look at bama and Georgia’s classes and come back and tell me we have a lot of top end talent. We don’t, and that’s still fine.

Like who? We’re looking at 1, maybe 3 at best 5 stars this class.

I think we also need to get some perspective here. LSU recruiting goes as Louisiana recruits go. This isnt the best year for the state.

Why? I’ve never seen LSU be stable at the QB position for 5 consecutive years and we will have that with Hurley coming in.
