How do you just drop a 4*star like that? Just has to be more to the story then "It's just a nasty business".

I think it's what the articles are stating, Tennessee signed about 32 last year and are going to get about 28-29 this year. They're at 27 with letting him go.

Either way, I hope we get in on him since we need DEs in this class

Lets hope that coach O jumps on it. Seems like his better options going forward are division rivals such as ole miss and arky which would surely take him.

I mean are majority of there DE's that they are recruiting all 5*stars? I mean to just drop a 4*star is kinda odd.

Tennessee is the new Bama.
Just ask on the SEC Recruiting Board.

Don't know anything about this kid or whethet there is any interest from him or LSU, but It certainly did work out well for us when Bama spurned Kwon, and very well for Arky when Bama spurned Philon. Man, recruiting can be brutal on both sides.

If this isn't a "bad character guy" we should be all over him. We need two DE's one more DL and an LB still, imho.

+1

I'm sure we're all over it.
I hate to see this happen to the kid 2 weeks before signing day.

Come on down Marques Ford

Coaches' evaluations don't always line up with those of recruiting sites. Remember Christine Michael, the RB at A&M? He was a 5 star on Rivals but LSU and Florida both passed on him.

Tennessee has 7 defensive lineman (all either 4 or 5 star) remaining in their class. Doesn't appear to be any more to the story than that. It's awesome for us for two reasons: 1) we have a need on the dline 2) bad reputation for Tennessee in recruiting if they make a habit of pulling scholarships

He was one of the "Risers" according to Rivals:

LINK

"After winning the defensive line MVP award at Rivals Camp Series Miami, Ford went from off the radar to a high three-star. But after a week at Under Armour that saw him consistently beat four-star offensive linemen in practice and in the actual game, it was clear that he belonged in the Rivals250. Ford is an edge rusher with great athleticism and even though he doesn't have ideal size, he makes up for it with his speed and strength." -- Wommack

There is no more to the story. Tennessee needs OL and hoping to flip Richmond and get Allen I believe.

Mullen pulled Chason Virgil's (a 3 star Texas QB) commit just 16 days before he would graduate (he was an early enrolle). That happened just a couple months ago. They initially pushed for him to graduate early then 16 days before his graduation they ask him to greyshirt.

Weird that he only had like 2 SEC offers. Alotta up north schools on him to say he's a Florida guy. Plus no big Florida schools on him either just the U.

How many scholarships does each school get? I was under the impression that there was a 25 man limit, but it seems like a few schools have passed that mark. Tennessee you say has 27-28 and I believe South Carolina is around 28

South Carolinas commit list

are you allowed this many under certain circumstances or is just an insurance pad in case someone flips?

It could be a lot of things.

From the looks of it, Tennessee has more commitments than scholarships, which should be illegal. We as fans are quick to chastize kids for flipping on commitments, but nothing is said when a coach decides to pull a scholarship offer or leave for another job.

I don't know, the Atlanta Journal Constitution has a vendetta against Saban and Alabama for their treatment of some Georgia boys.
