Tell the dude that he has to focus on lower leg exercises and he can't skip leg day because he hates doing squats. Lack of leg exercises=torn ACLs, etc. for skill players.

A redshirt year will do him good with rehab and S&C

See Brian Cushing. No matter what people say, you lose mobility, flexibility, explosiveness, etc. AND everything else is put under more stress such as hips and ankles because you compensate.
