Stewart Mandel names LSU Biggest NSD Disappointment

Biggest disappointment: LSU. Les Miles' team is normally a fixture at or near the top of the rankings, and a BCS championship game appearance last month would seemingly make this year ripe for a particularly strong class. Instead, the Tigers finished fifth among SEC teams and outside the top 15 nationally. Getting and then losing elite quarterback Gunner Kiel was a disappointment, as was four-star linebacker Torshiro Davis' last-minute defection to Texas. Quite uncharacteristically, the top four players from Louisiana -- safety Collins (Alabama) and linebackers Denzel Devall (Alabama), Davis and Otha Peters (Arkansas) -- went out of state. Mandel knows nothing about recruiting

Paging all sunshine pumpers, please report to this thread STAT!

It's a compliment even though he is clueless about recruiting.

Mandel is a bleeding vag!! He never passes up an opportunity to take a shot at LSU or Miles...i hate this fricker!!

What he doesn't realize is how much speed, an LSU hallmark, we have in this class of defenders and skill position players. Even by LSU standards, the speed of the LB's and others is just sick on steroids! He'll be writing a retraction in a few years. Typical media guy working off of surface info because he is overwhelmed with too many teams to try and cover.

Who is stewart Mandel and why do we care?

won't work if we don't score
we have no QB farm. We are screwed after next year

IIRC, Mandel had us pre-season as a predicted disappointment as well.

Something was up with the LA kids this year. Before, we had THE FAM. Being a Tiger meant something. This year, the top players all seemed to have a self-important view of themselves. That they were better than their home state. And that despite success on the field, LSU wasn't cool anymore. They all had reasons. Collins apparently is following mediocre tail. Devall really is a 3-4 linebacker (although making such specialized decisions based on your body at 18 is risky). Otha Peters truly wasn't rated as high on the staff's board as he was by recruiting services who watch 10 minutes of film. Torshiro Davis, well, he's an 18 year-old kid who either made a silly 18 year-old kid decision or truly just is a complete arse.
No doubt we wanted all of these guys (except Otha). No doubt losing them plus Gunner's mother's empty nest syndrome really put a damper on this class. No doubt the MNC game and the catastrophe syndrome fan reaction to it contributed to LSU not being "cool" anymore.
But we'll survive. We'll be fine. If the Tigers win out next year:
1. The bipolar fanbase will, for the third time, reproclaim Les a genius
2. Recruits will flock to the program
3. Torshiro Davis, Devall and the newly single Landon Collins, will all experience the same disappointment we LSU fans are currently feeling, coupled with the emotion we all should strive to live our lives to avoid: REGRET.
4. All will be right in the world.

Isn't he the guy that wrote the preseason article about LSU being the team most likely to disappoint in 2011?

I guess he doesn't count Hill either.
Somebody else tell me how the media doesn't hate LSU.
yet another example.

Stewart better watch out with the negativity. He's going to sway recruits from coming to LSU now.
Posted on 2/1/12 at 10:22 pm to Joe
Didn't he also say we would lose 4-5 games in 2011?

Hard to argue when you lose your top 3 prospects from your own state! That is almost as embarrassing as the BCS title game performance on offense.
I think the fact is that LSU is loaded for 2012 and a lot of top prospects simply want immediate playing time and they simply weren't going to get it on this team. That's a positive spin.
On the down side LSU's pathetic and embarrassing offensive effort from both a player and coaching performance had to steer blue chips on offense away. Hopefully the Tigers will re-group and come out strong in 2013 recruiting!
Winning the BCS championship in 2012 season will go a long way in restoring order and keeping the LSU train rolling along. We just have to beat 'Bama in our back yard this season and play out the schedule one game at a time like last season and prove we are still a great program! Keep the faith.
Geaux Tigers!

Yep, Collins, Devall and Davis were convinced not to come play defense at LSU by that offensive display.
