Toles is a freshman and getting some playing time now. So we are going to have with Toles 5 safeties.

Edited to finish title. Speed to cover one on one.

Centerfield Safety - Derrick Davis Jr
Nickle/Corner/Box - Sage Ryan
Box Safety - Khari Gee
Centerfield Safety 2 - Langlois

That’s how I see it

Exactly how it is. We have low numbers at safety on the depth chart. I know everyone is clamoring for other positions but one, we have a lot of needs and simply put, a 25 player class isn’t gonna fill all of them.

Two, anyone has watched LSU football this year can see defense, specifically safety play, has been a huge issue. We need safeties in the worst way.

Ryan but I am not sure that is the plan.

It looks to me like we are stocking the cabinet with safeties and DL this season and looking to go heavy on OL, LBs, and CBs next year

I can see them converting at least one to play weakside LB and take advantage of their sideline to sideline speed. Khari Gee looks like a prime candidate at 6’3” 190 and his body looks like it can easily take on another 20-25 pounds. If I didn’t have dreams of another Craig Steltz knocking peoples heads off at safety I would say Matthew Langlois would be the perfect choice. By the time he’s been through 2 Moffitt spring sessions he will be playing around 6’1” 215.

Sage Ryan runs a 4.45 forty. He’s fast enough to play wherever they need him to in the secondary.

I think Sage will be used how we planned on using Kelvin Joseph. That dude missed out on a golden opportunity.

A) Will have to continue to recruit Ryan until he signs.

B) Davis Jr. is an EE

C) have to assume we are taking Langlois how that went down.

So the picture may clear up just enough in Dec. where we have a better idea of him decommitting (asking him to look around) is warranted.

If we're as confident in Sage Ryan as everybody thinks we are (for good reason- seems to be a "shut it down" commitment) AND we need room for OL, yeah- he'll be asked to look around. Don't forget, Dellinger who is an absolute take is an EE too. So the numbers will play out in Dec. if we're looking for room for him.

Recruiting safeties this year has absolutely nothing to do with fixing bad safety play this year. By the time these safeties are ready to play the existing ones will be gone. Safety is just like every other position; we recruit for two and three years down the line. If we need outside help next year it has to come from transfers unless we get very lucky, and one of these is an extremely fast learner.

Next year’s starting safeties are probably Hampton and Toles.

Why do you say that? I think he is a take for the future at other positions or he can stay lean and provide depth were he is and be a stevens type roll... I hope we land all the guys we have and the guys we want Leigh, smith, foreman, byrd/OL. And deal with the numbers later I want em all, I don't wanna lose shead I think we need depth there I def don't want to lose koht, or Carter. I can't see a guy im ok with losing. Maybe someone doesn't make grades, and we can wait till next year to give him a scholly, maybe grey shirt or something for punter. I really don't know. Bit I don't see a guy in the class that we don't need.

Especially when you realize we may go into next season with Mo Hampton and Jordan Toles as the only returning safeties on the team.

This is a perfectly normal number of safeties to have on the roster. It would be worrisome if we had any fewer.

Nah we need a big safety class. I think the coaches recognized Langlois and Bech both were too good of ball players to let leave the state. Both can BALL
