5'7" to 5'10" which is it really? I saw him listed somewhere as 5'9" yesterday.

Sione Palelei, RB, East Ascension, LA (2014)

Testing: 5-9, 188, 4.4 40, 4.1 shuttle, 34.5-inch vertical, 36x155-pounds, 9-10 BJ

Assets: The testing numbers that he put up on this day are some of the sickest I have ever seen. I knew from his performance at the SE 5-Star Showcase he was good but not this good. He is one rocked up back that has homerun speed, great acceleration, and the strength to bounce off linebackers. If college coaches have not seen his film yet they need to google his name ASAP. He is not an all-purpose back but an every down back that can either make you miss or run you over. The long trip to College Park, Georgia paid off for Palelei as he received the highest honor Overall MVP.

Development: The only area I saw that he may need to work on is his body control as a receiver out of the backfield. He already has verbal offers from Alabama and LSU and you can expect that to continue to grow at an insane pace.

LOL, my exact words when his Dad said it...

I found that curious too, but I guess that's something they tell a kid in his Sophomore year. The kid looks 5'10 to me, but is it horrible if he's 5'9?

Agreed. 5'9" at one time was the average height of an NFL running back with a lot of great ones close to that size.

Miles likes his backs 225lbs or bigger and around at least 6'0". If this kid comes to LSU Miles will hardly ever play him. He will end up riding the bench and being a 3rd or 4th option. If he is as good as everybody says then his best fit would be an Oregon style offense. Miles loves those huge running backs that are built like battering rams. That's not this kid.

Just add one more thing. Miles is a north-south fan when it comes to running backs. He has never been a big fan of the cut back or slashing type runner.

Les and Frank are openly looking for a change of pace back or 2. The reason that Ryan Green was the focus for a RB in this class and why Palelei is on their watchlist. Also why Brazil's future may be at RB. If they truly want to run some variation of zone read at times, they need backs like these. Also think Les has figured out that while north/south running can do the job in 9-10 games a year, in a couple we'll need some wide runs or a back that make some guys miss. UGA shut our run down in the 1st half and Bama shut all but Ford on the option down in both games. Bama is the peer and to stay ahead of the curve for Saban's defense we need to have different options in the running game. Straight ahead doesn't work too well against those guys.

This kid is at 195 RIGHT NOW. He still has his Junior and Senior years to go. His parents have the big typical Samoan build, so he will probably be near 220 when he graduates. He does not run like a scat back- he's very physical... With a burst.

Just curious, is there a big Samoan population somewhere in Gonzales?

If so can they produce a few defensive tackles for us?

Hope we stay on him hard. I would think BYU would be a dark horse hear with all the islanders they get. Is the family LDS?

I don't think so. Dad said he would put BYU 99th, if it were up to him.

Good deal thanks for the update.

FWIW, if I have daughters, they're going to BYU. Tuition is dirt cheap and that honor code really strikes me as something I'd prefer over people like I knew at LSU.
