Les says they plan to over sign in this 2016 class, around 25-30 recruits. Is the purpose of over signing to create more depth or what?

The purpose is to sign the best players in the country to compete for championships

Yes, of course. But we can back-count early enrollees to 2015, and are still in on a lot of elite prospects. Coaches won't turn them away at all.

To answer your question..LSU is oversigning because of the quality of player left that they have a shot at. It's in no way similar to what Tennessee has been doing the past 3 years (depth, like you mentioned).

Good point, Tennessee was filling their class with warm bodies at some point. LSU has the luxury to be selective.

LSU averages like a player per round in the draft, idk where all the Tennessee recruits go but its not the draft. All the kids coming in have a shot to play instead of greyshirting and disappearing.

I'm sure the staff last year promised meaningful playing time to guice, mouton, brossette, tehuma, weathersby, tyron, toliver, donte, key, etc etc etc and they delivered on each one! Same will happen this class mostly on defense.

If there ever was a year to over sign, its 2016. 2014 was stacked, but we weren't in it for a shite load of top prospects outside of the (5 for 5) that was still on the board. This year is setting up to be special. Unlike years in the pass, we are in serious consideration for many of the top players at their position in the country.

Divinity, Savion, and Dee Anderson.

Subject to change if we add more or lose any of those, obviously. Divinity worries me and Savion likely bolts if Raymond isn't retained.
