I would be okay with saving a spot or two for next years class. This would give us the opportunity to sign a few kids that woulda already enroll early and have them not count as next years 25. This would be a good option if we cannot find quality recruits/transfers this year to fill the remaining spots. And I get it we “couldn’t” fill the spots this year as is, but this is a down year for Louisiana recruits even with the processed players. The class didn’t work out how we wanted completely yet, but next year’s class could can benefit from it also.

Depends on position, and by position only.

If you have 'filler' signees and...
1. You don't have a depth-hole need to fill
2. Next year has a stud at that position

You leave it open.

Note by 'filler' I don't mean the player isn't good, just wasn't the original target. Could be very deserving, there's just better out there.

If/when LSU wins the national championship, the recruiting boost will be crazy. I'd be all in favor of saving spots for next year. We can load up on early verbals and not be worried with some swing and misses.

Not wise.

Because LSU puts so many people in the NFL, they need to sign a full class every year. The NFL draft eats away tremendously at your depth when guys leave early.

Verbals will always be at risk to flip, unfortunately.

no idiot, like Ricks and Boutte. Why would we want to have two guys who flip?

I’m not an expert but saving spots for the future doesn’t seem like a good idea ever. There is always natural attrition more these days of loser transfer rules.

May save one or two spots, LSU still has some recruits they are trying to get

You don't save for the sake of saving.

You make the best effort to sign players that can play at a high level for this team. If they can't, you don't waste a scholly on someone that doesn't deserve it.

More likely to save a spot for transfer instead of next year. Also, some of those late adds are guys the staff knows something about that others don’t such as Moreau, Cushenberry, and Jefferson. We must remember that stars don’t mean everything. It’s just people’s opinions. Some rise to the occasion and some don’t.

true, but we'll know by signing day how that shakes out.

Save as many spots as possible as LSU May only receive 1-2 quality signees with six scholarships.

Didn't go over my head. What I think went over your head is that all commitments are verbal until they are signed, whether they come early or late, and are a risk for flipping. You don't not take a player just because you think he might flip. Most recruits don't flip but of course some do.

Doesn't help Depth just to sign players as filler. Better to use some of those slots for transfers and/or additional players in next year's class if you can't fill them with top quality players in this year's class

It's simple math. Unless of course if LSU could keep all players 4 years (which isn't happening). Thus, you put your program at a significant disadvantage not using the full 25 each year.

My post said nothing about filler. But there are many players out there that aren't quite NFL players that will stay in your program 4-5 years that make it into the 2 deep by their Junior/Senior years that provide quality depth and help offset major draft departures or losses due to injuries.
