Saban did the same thing here with a kid who screwed up but he also was asked by a ref to move back after the same kid made a great play in the same game and he was there to pump the kid up. Say what you want but the guy is a great college coach.

I agree that Saban is a very good coach. But I think it's because he has the mental coaching abilities to go along with his sideline antics that pass for discipline.

The wierd thing about it is I bet there are a lot of coaches at different levels that emulate his sidelne douchbaggery but don't have anything like his skills.

Same thing with a coach like Bear Bryant. I'm sure there were tons of coaches out there working kids to dehydration and heat stroke trying to emulate his "discipline" but didn't have anything close to his X's and O's ability.

Wow. A coach yelling at his players after they apparently screw up. Saban must be the first perosn in history to do that. I thought football coaches were known for being sweet, cuddly teddy bears.

Maybe we should just pat them on the back everytime they screw up.

Bitching at a player who screws up is one thing, but Saban's is known for continually verbally emasculating his players with his tirades. There is a huge difference between player discipline for blown assignments on the field and downright denigrating verbal berating. Saban is legendary for the later. Just look up Ronnie Prude and ask him.

I highly doubt this is even a problem.

Then I suggest you look up some of LSU's players from Saban's 2004 team.

But the first time the team starts to lose, and it will happen, the team turns on that type of coach on a dime. This coaching style does not last the long haul...its a good quick fix.

+1

Which is why Saban has yet to prove he can sustain what he builds. Not a single time in his coaching career has he ever sustained anything long-term.

I recall this same thing starting to happen the year he left LSU and the year leading up to it.

You are absolutely correct ... a fact many here are either ignorant of to begin with or have conveniently forgotten regarding Saban. The way he attempted to verbally denigrate and verbally emasculate Ronnie Prude after the Iowa bowl game loss has always been Saban's coaching style. He isn't just bitching about a blown assignment, he's out to verbally denigrate in the worst way - there IS a difference.

At first, players put up with it because they're winning, but after a while, it's not worth it ... and when the less than stellar seasons start, it's not worth it at all anymore.

Coaches do that all the time.

No, the vast majority of coaches do NOT do what Nick Saban does. They may yell and scream at a player for a blown assignment, etc., but very few coaches do so in such a way as to humiliate, denigrate and verbally emasculate a player like Saban does.

Just ask a few of LSU's 2004 players about it, most especially, although you could ask anyone who ever played for him just as well. It's why he can't make it in the pros - pro players won't put up with that crap, but in the collegiate ranks, Saban can hold the scholly over a player's head.

so what happens when a nice guy coach lets the team run wild and you end up with a 5-loss season that way?

You are of course referring to Saban's immense coaching skills which were on display to the entire country throughout the Sugar Bowl against a damn fine Ute team?

...and I suggested a coach should do this where in any of my posts?

Miles let his team run wild? Really now? Where are the links?

We had a crappy year with the co-D debacle and a clear lack of disciplined PLAY on the defensive side of the ball, but that scarcely qualifies as "the team run wild". Get a grip.

Are you talking about the coach that loss LESS than 3 games at LSU how many times? Once, I think, the NC year!

The man is a great recruiter, a terrific DB coach, an a-hole who it seems is very difficult to work for AND to play for. Do I wish he had never left LSU? That's a tough question because had he not left then, he WOULD have left eventually. It's just in his nature. Now, he "MIGHT" stay a 'lil bit longer at this "stop" after his failed attempt in Miami; but let's face it, he was getting itchy to prove he could do it on another level OR at another school.

I'm pretty happy with the one we got now. E'nuff said!

yes, there are psycho douchbags losing games every week. discipline has very little to do with yelling. the problem with Saban is his emotions can get in the way of seeing when his players need to be calmed down. Last year vs. OSU, Les was very calm on the sidelines when we went down 10-0, and the players responded. Different styles, but one produced a big win after falling behind, the other got embarrassed.

There's an indisputable point where the respective scoreboards weigh in at the end.

Maybe you're just a hippie douche that thinks too much. Get your panties out of a wad. If you ever reproduce, and the minute chance your kid can ball, don't send him to Saban. Problem solved.
