Not even close to Cy Ridge level of competition. That's why he's 3*s with better stats than Shepard.

Was Russell Shepard recruited as a QB? Yes and no. Many schools would have loved for him to play QB for them, but many others were thinking of him as an athlete.

Nevertheless, he was listed by nearly every recruiting service as a QB.

247 - Dual-Threat Quarterback

Rivals - Dual-Threat Quarterback

Scout - QB

Scott's rushing stats are better than Shepard's. But far more importantly, Scott's passing stats are SIGNIFICANTLY better than Shepard's stats: Comp%, total yards and YPA, and TDs and TD:Int ratio.

But the thing that has to blow you away is the QB Rating. Holy shite!

So you couple better than Shepard rushing ability with amazing passing prowess. That's impressive.

I'm with you brother.

You try to find good things in recruits where others try to tear them down.

Their dreams have died.
Their hope is dead.

Shep was never playing qb. LSU had plenty of other kids that were better passers that switched positions and were fine. Rueben Randle, Spencer Ware, Terrance Magee, just to name a few.

Interesting?

It's actually not that interesting considering that Shepard came out of High School rated as a 5 star athlete.
He was not recruited by LSU or any other major colleges as a QB. He was a RB his first year at LSU until a guy from Georgia almost broke him in half. Than the receiver project started...

Shep played 5a or what is classified as 6a now in Texas. Scott plays in a high classification as well. No need to factor that in. However Shep was nationally top 10 and Scott doesn't crack most top 40 Qb lists. Shitty, but who cares?

I agree they are not looking at his play as much as his height. That is really unfortunate. Like I've said before.... just head down I-10 and ask the future hall of famer about his height and if he cares.

Watched RS in highschool. Don't care what is numbers were he was not a good passing QB. His running ability helped to get a lot of recievers open and almost any below average QB could have completed the pass. Everytime RS threw a pass I wanted to take out a shotgun and shoot that duck out of the sky.

I never understood why he was ranked so high as a QB and never beloved he would be a QB beyond highschool.

Scott has work to do but he looks like a much better passer than RS. Don't know if he will improve or not but a least he has potential to be a QB at the next level.

That's just not true. While it's true that colleges that ran a pro set were looking at Shepard as an athlete, there were several colleges recruiting him to be a DT QB.

Wow, 0 for 3 in that quote.

Shepard was focusing on QB until halfway through the 2009 regular season. Just after the Florida game, Shepard was able to talk Miles into transitioning Shepard to WR. It didn't become official until spring practice 2010.

Better comparison would be between Scott and Perriloux

True.
I remember when they said TM7 was too small too. Saw how that worked out

Just not a fair comparison. No way you can compare stats of Louisiana QB's versus that of Texas QB's. Quality of competition in state of Texas is off the charts compared to Lousiana.

I didn't recall if it was Georgia or not, but I will never forget the image of RS getting powerlifted then body-slammed into Tiger Stadium turf. This actually happened twice in his career.

It was the rain-soaked Vandy game. I also think it was also Shep's 1st ever appearance in a game. Got the 1st down, then leveled.

didn't the qb from warren Easton last year have really good stats. he was a 3*.

qb rating are largely based on arm strength and measurable, with a little elite 11 action figured in. franks is a function of this.

Shep had some of the best footage I have ever seen coming out of high school. Really impressive that Scott's stats are good compared to his. I hope we get him and he turns out to be incredible.

This sounds more accurate to my foggy recollection... but he did get brutally slammed twice. So maybe the other time was UGA

How so many up votes? Lindsey not coming in as an athlete, dude is all QB. If we hint that he may not be used as a QB he will go elsewhere. We never had intentions of using RS10 as QB...

Awesome stats though Mr. Scott

No. No hes not. Kyler Murray is the same size as Scott and was a 5*. No matter how anyone here wants to slice Scott has flaws in his game. There is a reason we are down to our last options at QB with him being one of the options.

Also anyone thinking our now watered down 4a classification is anywhere near Texas 6a classification is just trying to pump sunshine.
