I agree with this. Some on this board like to say everything is grand don't worry about losing all of this talent to other schools. Because after all 24/7 has our class ranked 5th.

I don't know if strategy, but we do need some changes. In my opinion:
1. We need to catch up to some of our competitors' amenities for players.
2. We need to increase the staff and budget considerably.
3. Do a better job finding out who the influences are on each recruit.

Let me preface this with I don't think CLM is a bad recruiter or bad coach but this recruiting cycle tells me LSU needs some serious changes in their approach to recruiting.

wait till signing day is over before advocating this. we upgraded at safety after losing hootie and we may upgrade at dt if we sign valentine. state[/quote]

i really don't know LSU's recruiting strategy and am curious to know if you do. "all of our eggs in one basket" is pretty vague and i believe inaccurate. maybe with LF but not with the other guys; we got adams pretty damn quick after hootie went gump. and valentine looks pretty damn quick too.

it’s the not recruiting strategy, it’s the antiquated offensive style of running it up the gut AD NAUSEAM. Until they switch to the motion-spread-option, hint Oklahoma, they'll miss out of Speedy Noil-type players.

LSU beat Iowa but do you really think a dynamic receiver-type is going to want to go to LSU after watching Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor, UCF, Missouri, Okla. state, Ohio State and Clemson light up the score boards?

With the exception of Alabama, no one in this conference recruits better on a consistent year-in-year-out basis than Miles and LSU.

And what's ironic about the "sky is falling" crowd is that THIS YEAR IS NO DIFFERENT. YET AGAIN, LSU is going to have one of the best recruiting classes in the country and the SEC.

The time to get concerned is not when you're losing some top Louisiana kids and replacing them with near-equal or in some cases better talent (Adams) than the in-stater. The time to get concerned is when we start losing in-state talent and replacing them with subpar talent or unable to replace them at all.

At this point I believe kids need to see a larger sample size from the offensive side of the ball...True indeed, Jarvis and Odell had great years! Mett had a terrific single season, but for several years prior to that, our offense hasn't been sexy enough for some playmaker type athletes..This year, Cam can show what he can do with young talent, our offensive credibility will grow with another offensive year like this past season...Sumlin has been throwing the ball around the yard for years, and for some kids, that maybe more important than championships with limited touches..

Agreed.

We were handed a gift this year by the Football God's of having 6 five star prospects in our own recruiting base. To land 2 of those isn't good enough.

I take that back, it is good enough for the dipshits on here who go "oh we have the #5 class, yea Les sucks " but those are the same people that jump up and down for 10 win seasons and a Chicken or Outback Bowl appearance.

Bottom line is that this class coulda woulda shoulda made us turn the corner into a 12 win a year program, but we just couldn't quite get it done.

It's obvious we didn't recruit up to our potential this year and need to make some changes on staff, in tactics, and possibly with facilities.

But of course I'm a negatiger because I want more or something like that.

Some people always think the sky is falling. Ever since Coach Miles got to LSU, LSU has been in the top 10 in recruiting. LSU will finish in the top 10 in recruiting this year as well. You always have a back up plan when a recruit does not commit to you. Ok we might not get a 5 star recruit. But we will get a 4 star recruit to take his place.

It's not that u think the sky is falling but when LSU is the flagship school and they seem to be losing a grip on the talent in state. By the way Clark may be flipping to Oklahoma so all of those guys cheering for the #5 class will have to say we have a top 10 class.

Offering and accepting lesser players is a bad strategy. You can't land a 5 star if you don't pursue them. The staff gauged interest, liked their chances, and pressed hard.

THANK YOU!

I fricking hate this line of thinking and say this all the time. The better a player is, the more schools are going to recruit him. You want to go for safe picks you end up like state with a diamon in the rough every now and them. Elite schools (yes, we are an elite school despite what rantards think) go big. We happen to be in a conference with multiple elite schools. And we are doing quite well. We aren't the only school recruiting or losing players. For every instate we lost, we have equal or better talent from out of state. Currently 3 5*'s committed from out of state and some 4*'s too.

some on this board, like you, aren't interested in explanations of how much of this stuff unfolds because you're over-invested in your pessimistic view of the program...
