My son scheduled a visit to a D1 school so we carried him on the academic tour, then we visited with the football staff to talk about my son and then discussed camps.

While waiting in the lobby for their athletics department, one of the football coaches hurried by while talking on his cell phone. He had to get to the bathroom quick. When he came out of the bathroom his end of the conversation was "so you've got the terms, you know what we've got... you've got a scholarship offer here so what do you say?" As he was headed back down the hall.

Thought it was hilarious the whole time he was in the bathroom he was trying to get this kid to buy in to the program. Great staff though, nice campus... starting to understand why some kids waiver between their favorite school and other schools.

Also was funny that the coach we talked to there wasn't the same one we had talked to previously to set up the visit. He thought we were there to register him for walk on try-outs... mouth dropped when I laughed and said "oh no, he's still in 8th grade". Had a great conversation afterward. Looking forward to watching the whole recruiting process unfold.

Subtle brag

Congrats to your son, hope you and him enjoy the ride and it ends up in the right choice.

Why would an 8th grader be taking an academic tour though? A lot will change by the time he enrolls.

Was his choice - dunno why he wanted to go, but hey it was a nice little road trip to Memphis. The school had been sending a lot of mailings for him, so he wanted to go see the campus. He's got a long way to go before I would consider him D1 (especially if he keeps playing on the line and doesn't get much bigger). He did Top Gun last summer so he does decent, but... still a ways to go.

Anyway just found it interesting and funny, curious how often scholarships are offered by a coach on the shitter lol
