You never turn down players like Priest and Robinson.

Well sometimes you may have to if they play the waiting game for too long. We're LSU, we've moved passed being completely dependent on individual players. Case in point: Landon Collins. Great player and was someone I really wanted, but we're not going to fall apart without the guy.

I understand your point. But I am talking about the guys that want in. Like RR. I don't really know where Priest is at but I know RR wants in.

You won't have to wait too much longer for RR.

I hope not. Once he is in the bag. LSU can move on to Gilmore and Willis they should be the next ones in.

For everybody who is talking about recruits getting left out, can't we take 26 with Liggins not qualifying? I thought I remember Rettig and Jennings saying they were going to enroll early, which I think means they can count back...

Liggins' spot can't be reused. In the SEC, once a kid signs, he counts. No takebacks. That's the risk in signing kids that could fail to qualify. We'll likely see this scenario again this year. Either this or the John Thomas situation, maybe both. Bolden is taking the 1 open spot for last year, assuming he counts as one of the PSU penalty transfers, which apparantly may still be in question. Anyone have any clarification on how he works?

Using Collins as an example for Willis is not correct. Collins chose to go elsewhere but make no mistake, we would have taken him whenever he wanted in, whether it be January, February or sometime this summer. Willis will be waited on as well, at least until February.

I know this has sort of been beat to death, but I can't find anything that supports this interpretation. The only way to reach this conclusion is to conflate the meanings of LOI and initial counter to mean the same thing. Look at the SEC constitution:

quote:

13.9.1 Letter of Intent - Limitation. Each SEC member institution is limited to signing 25 football prospective studentathletes to a National Letter of Intent, Conference financial aid agreement and/or institutional offer of athletics financial aid from December 1 through May 31st of each year. [Adopted 5/29/09; effective immediately; revised 6/3/11; effective August 1, 2011]

13.9.1.1 Signing Limit Exception. A prospective student-athlete who signs a National Letter of Intent, Conference financial aid agreement and/or institutional offer of athletics financial aid and is included in the certifying institution’s initial counter limits for the current academic year is not subject to the institution’s annual signing limit. [Adopted 6/3/11; effective August 1, 2011]

The first reg clearly would include Liggins, but it only applies to a certain time frame. The second reg allows for back counting, but the limit is determined by initial counters. The only way to include Liggins in initial counters is to assume LOI = initial counter, but this is clearly not the case.

The SEC clarification that ForeLSU pointed us to, doesn't really help either:
quote:

“If a player signs, he counts without regard to whether or not he actually enrolls,” SEC spokesman Charles Bloom said in an e-mail Monday. “ ‘Back counting’ is only permitted for mid-year enrollees who are able to be included as an initial counter for the academic year in which they enroll. ‘Back counting’ is an artificial term for this discussion and not accurate as the question is about the signing limit.”

The response seems like he was more annoyed at someone using the term back counting than interested in answering the question. But he also says initial counter instead of LOI. Now the intent may be to include a Liggins, but it's really sloppy rule making as there is nothing here to support it.
