He's only talking about the incoming freshman. Guys like Duke, D. Alexander, and Voorhies will definitely get their chances.
The OP did ask if Thorton would start though. So, I agree that Donnie is being overlooked.

Looking at pics of Thornton, he already has the size. Apparently the speed is there too.
At 6'4, 223 he is already two inches taller and four pounds heavier than Debo was at the combine. Divinity is in the same range. I don't think Donnie or Voorhies are being overlooked because honestly, these guys we landed in this class are that good. I would say Rahssan and Michael are athletically and physically ahead of those two guys already..
In a 3-4, I like Duke and Thornton/Divinity at OLB with Beckwith and White in the middle.

Aranda's defense is unique and confusing to opposing offenses, but they say he also makes it quite easy for kids to pick up on and thrive in. He reduces the typical learning curve apparently, so it's possible lots of new players will shine.

Donnie has not shown me one thing since he has been here in the two years that leads me to believe he should be doing anything other than playing special teams.

Some may have said the same about Debo 2 or 3 years ago or Neal before 2015. Let's see what Arranda can do with some of these returning LBs (or converted Safeties) before we completely give up on them. A new scheme that focuses on man coverage and pressure, rather than a bunch of zone coverages with different reads, may do some of them a lot of good.

Lawd Divinity and Thornton. Both NOLA kids Jesus. (Yes Thornton was born and raised in New Orleans. 7th ward/Gentilly area if i remember correct)!

linebacker has become a position of strength under the current regime. it was not under chavis. and the guy taught linebackers.

You guys are looking at this all wrong. Here is a list of players that will fill OLB spots:
However I think that Divinity, Thornton, Key, and Anthony will see significant time at the OLB spot and most could play both SOLB and WOLB. So I am not eching this in stone, just don't forget about the guys we have now that are playing at DE in a 4-3 but would play SOLB in a 3-4. And I agree that one or two of these guys will bulk up enough to fill MLB.
I think the main thing to consider here is that Aranda is salivating at all this talent and how he will rotate them in and out. Move them around from one side to the other, blitz this guy drop this guy back. I just can't wait to see man...
Strong Side OLB:
Tashawn Bower
Sione Teuhema
Caleb Roddy
Arden Key
Thornton
Weak Side OLB:
Arden Key
Divinity
Thornton
Anthony
Sci Martin - if he signs.
MLB:
Beckwith
Layton Garnett
Deondre Clark
Isaiah Washington
Travez Moore - if he signs.
3-4 SDE:
Rashard Lawrence
Frank Herron
Emmit Gooden - if he signs.
3-4 WDE:
Davon Godchaux
Lewis Neal
Emmit Gooden - if he signs.
3-4 NG:
Edwin Alexander
Christian LaCouture
Greg Gilmore

Then you don't really watch the games much. He looked pretty solid and played a good bit this past season. Riley looked solid as well, much better his freshman year, but also had a an illness that set him back months.
I watched Debo for all four years, the first three he made some wow plays, but also missed more tackles than Welter, no joke on that. Nonetheless he worked extremely hard and dominated last season. Any of these players can have that moment if they work for it.
So maybe you should actively watch the games instead of talking shite about any LSU player that has done more for the team than you ever will
