I was told by someone that a certain highly touted recruit's father does not want him to come to LSU. I was wondering, can the parent's legally stop the child from attending the school of their choice.

Hell no

Unless they're paying for it, they can refuse...but if we're talking about athletes, it's a full paid scholly

I think it would depend on their age. If I'm not mistaken, some players have to have their parents sign the LOI. Anyone? Or am I just talking out my arse?

The premise of the post is untrue. However, this is a good question. If the kid is still a minor, I would think the parents could stop him from signing a LOI. That would be a contract, and minors would need parent / guardian to approve (just my supposition). I have no knowledge of this, but I believe it to be so.

If they are under age 18 they need a parent to sign the LOI.

However, a signed LOI is not necessary to go to a school on athletic scholarship. If the parent absolutely refuses, and the kid is 17 when it is time to enroll- he can simply enroll and play ball.

Don't know if this helps but minors can void a contract whenever they want

Not that you're wrong but Dmitch probably wouldn't say it was true if it were.
