Yeahhh.. I don't think he's basing his opinion on Brennan from his play in the game Saturday night.. lol

Of course because that would be ridiculous right? The problem is that he's not basing it on anything other than his desire to see Brennan be what everyone hopes he will be. What he did in high school or in practice is pretty much irrelevant. They are both talented but the most important qualities of playing QB are intangibles. It's not about the strongest arm and it's not about 40 times. Either the moment is too big for them or it isn't and it all slows down. Brennan will still have to win the job and the same goes for fields wherever he ends up. Anyone making definitive statements on who is the better QB is blowing smoke. Let's say fields comes here....do you think by this time next year that Lowell narcisse won't be looking to win the starting job?? You think fields is going to come in and just win the job over both he and Brennan? We don't know shite until they are getting live reps in real games.

Please God. He's the type of QB that would completely dominate in a wide open offense.

but Fields winning the job would likely mean losing Brennan and Narcisse either right before or right after the 2018 season.

Ok I will play the what if game with you, although it is probably a moot point since I don't think Fields will be coming to LSU.

If Fields did come to LSU and did beat out Brennan and Narcisse and one of the two transferred it is not a bad thing for LSU football. If a better player beats out a lesser player for a position, isn't that what you want for LSU football. The best players at each position play. It would suck for Brennan and Narcisse but that is athletics, the best player is supposed to play and the key is, they both know that!

He already redshirted.

Yes he did, but this is a medical redshirt he would be applying for. If he misses the rest of the season "which it is already been stated he will" then if he stays for his 5th year then he can apply for the 6th year and unless something absolutely crazy happens he will get it.

I'm not sure he could beat out #15 to be honest. Brennan is gonna look like a seasoned vet by game 1 next year. Kid is extremely accurate and has a dam cannon.

Any other QB out there for 2018 I'd say they wouldn't have a chance of beating out Brennan (hell I don't think Narcisse does until I actually see him pass). Fields is college ready already. This guy is perfect for this offense, hell, any offense.

7 on 7 with no tackling is much, much different than college football in the SEC.

Lol, obviously, but the same can be said for Patterson (16'), Brennan (17'), and all the others who attended it.

7 on 7 is what Fields reputation is built on moreso than even his hs film.

Actually no. He was a 5 star and the #2 QB in the country before the Elite 11 in Oregon. The Elite 11, where he competed against other top level QBs including the original #1 QB/player Trevor Lawrence who they say is like Peyton Manning v2, is where he destroyed the competition.

I remember saying on this site that Jake Fromm was one of, if not my favorite QB from last year's class, and that he could beat out an experienced Eason during the season. As of right now, if he continues to do well in place of an injured Eason, he'll be the new full time starter.

Fields has that same kind of QB talent, but even better because of his athletic ability.

However, Brennan is good enough, I believe, to be the starter and remain the starter for years. If Etling starts failing, I really want to see what he can do a year early.

LSU is pushing for a visit, but this kid is a complete long shot imo.

I don't know the details of his redshirt (e.g. maybe he was injured his sr yr in high school), but if it was a normal redshirt that is EXPLICITLY considered to be under his control. To get a 6th year (a hardship waiver) you must miss 2 years for reasons beyond your control.

Under current rules you can't redshirt if you participate in a single play. A medical redshirt is for those who haven't redshirted, but get a season ending injury in the first 30% (I think) of the season. You are confusing a medical redshirt with a hardship waiver.

About as silly as your absolute that he'd beat out Brennan

Whether they come here or not I'm still interested into where some uber talented players go.

While I love LSU, I'm a CFB fan through and through. I don't just follow the doings of LSU and their next opponent.

The way QB's transfer today, you need one in every class.

I agree - plan for up to 5 if you keep everybody. Ideally, guy plays a lot of backup as a RSJr and is featured as a 5th year senior, but kids just don't have the patience for that. If they are not the clear #2 by their sophomore year behind a guy who's about to leave (graduate or NFL) then they bolt.

It is what it is.

We feel confident, but LSU has popped up as maybe getting a visit from guys at 247 it seems.

We're hearing possible decommit from Kenyon Jackson (UGA/FSU). Didn't want to start a thread here and certainly didn't want to come across as trolling.
Any news there?

So is the thinking that Fromm playing this year entrenches him as the probable starter for next year? I don't really get how this changes anything that much for Fields. Either way, he was going to have to come in and compete with Fromm and Eason.

No idea about Jackson. Other than some FSU flip CBs in July when he camped there, it's been quiet.

The hypotheticals on depth charts are something I've kept away from. His Mom nor stepmom have been to Auburn or Tallahassee and his sister is gonna run track at UGA. He has several unknown visits to Athens. Most are assuming predictions based on depth charts and other crazy variables. Recruits he's closest with are committed or possible silents/leans. That and some other things have had me confident for a while. FSU guys are kind of walking back their confidence and Auburn has some homers throwing click bait. Florida is not in this.
LSU, UGA, USC, FSU, Barn would be my guess as officials. Think he verbals publicly really soon as well.

Thanks for the info. Just saw it pop up and we need to keep our Grayson pipeline flowing. We also need a third WR for '19.

Good luck recruiting and beating everyone's arse on your schedule

Eason would be a junior and if he was starting QB, that would mean he's a 2 year returning starting QB and Fields knows he's not gunna play that year, but would probably see Eason off the NFL after his first season there and compete for the starting job his redshirt freshman or true sophomore season.

If Fromm takes over, he'll only be a sophomore. That would mean he's the returning starter and obviously played very well to overtake Eason entirely, giving Fields very little chance again of starting year 1. Now fields has to wait AT LEAST 2 years probably before getting a real chance to start. If Fromm takes over, AND Eason sticks around, it's unlikely Fields would even be the #2 QB for at least 2 seasons, too.

Basically, there's a log jam at QB at UGA, Fields going there doesn't make any sense if he wants to play early. He's sitting for at bare minimum 1 season and very likely 2 seasons. Could be as much as 3 seasons. He seems to have the most connections to UGA, but in the end if he wants to play early it's probably the last place he should pick as there's just no playing time to be had.

By far the biggest thing working in our favor is depth chart. We have a senior starting QB this season so everyone knows there will be a true competition for the starting QB job next season. That competition is only true freshmen this year too, so it's not like you're competing with a program guy who has been here for 2,3, 4 years and knows the ropes and has a leg up. It will truly be let the best man win next year.
