No doubt. I wish I could see a real game between them. Maybe Grant can swap with them week 9.

If I'm not mistaken they were in a dog fight with Ouachita until they went 5 wide and started throwing it almost every play.

Have they had more than 5 in the last 15 years?

Neither are showing any D1 offers

They blew it Ouachita by going 5 wide and confusing the coverage. They were losing until that happened.

Gotcha, you’ve only seen one game. They can line up and run it or spread it wide.

They were hardly ever in a 5 wide set though.

Yes they have 3 that I can think of that are currently D1 just within the last 3 years.

Before it’s all said and done, at least 4 from this years team will play at the next level.

They were losing until they hung 48 consecutive points on Ouachita

Sounds like you get confused easily, too

Why are you intent on downplaying those kids? Probably the OPHS film guy

No, it’s not the system… I saw a few minutes on the stream of their win against Ouachita and their sideline looked like West Monroe in their heyday… WM and Neville aren’t really competing for championships anymore. There must be a reason

Jena must be good then

They’ve looked really sharp on offense and the defense has made just enough big plays to give the offense the ball, along with some timely takeaways.

Team has 15 seniors which is above average for Jena. Senior starting running back is very explosive, Sr QB and a WR if given the chance could be pretty dangerous.

I remember when ocs had 2 sec ol and a te, would have been 3 if Whit had been there. They do thing right over there for sure, and lots of good people. If Ruston had thatt offense with its defense, they'd be top 10 nationally ??

Do you think OCS is ranked too low?

I have no dog in this fight but I will say I played against the Mark Laird OCS team in the playoffs in baseball at OCS and they had the nicest grass field I had (and to this day, have) played on in my entire life. I've played at every major college in LA besides LSU and a couple in Mississippi and Texas. OCS had the best.

Also OCS was always near the top of the bracket in football when I was in high school but we never played them while I was there. They have a good program but they weren't known for exactly pumping out D1 talent 10-12 years ago.

That's my contribution to this thread

Yeah you do. There are a few too many South La elitists on TD that turn their nose up at anything and anyone, including athletes, north of Alexandria.

Really? You don’t think it might have more to do with OP naming an entire team rather than any specific prospects?

Mark Laird

He’s a guy that if he wanted to play football he could have. He walked on to the football team the summer before joining the baseball team at LSU and was the fastest guy there.

OCS doesn’t have many D1 guys year in and year out. They win by being well coached, athletic, and disciplined.

So when a few guys actually do come along they are dismissed because they must be system guys.

In my opinion Bentley, Devall, Lovelady, White, and Hamby are all D1 Talent.

White is committed to play baseball at ULM
Hamby is committed to Vandy for Football
Bentley is huge and is still growing. He has not yet committed but will sign D1
Lovelady is pure havoc on the field and if he was 6’4” he would be highly recruited
Duvall is Devin Duvall (Bama) little brother. He has the size 6’4” 250 and literally dominated Ouachita

The downvotes to the OP are absurd. This is a very good football team in any classification. They will put some players into D1 programs and the OP was right, it would be worthwhile to have a look at them in action.

South La elitists look at NELA talent the same way we look at out of state gumbo. Except out of state gumbo sucks, and NELA talent is the strongest it's been since the era of Rueben Randle and Randall Mackey dominating 4A. (Yes I know Mackey was from south La, I'm referencing the era) we would be remiss not to look harder at NELA talent. Our left tackle is from Monroe. Our right tackle is from Bastrop. Their blocking has helped us win games. It's not rocket science. North LA produces a ton of talent. See Whitworth, see Randle, see Turpin, see Prescott.
