chRxis,

Dude, take it down a notch.

This is the Recruiting Board - please try to stick to the topic and not your incessant Miles bashing.

We get it, you don't like him.

There's no need to tell us that in EVERY thread.

i'm not going anywhere... i AM talking about recruiting... what i am talking about is how retarded the ranking systems are...

they do serve a purpose, but that purpose gets altered in the mind of the casual fan... i hate that... i hate it for the guys being ranked most of all... they work their asses off (most of the time) trying to be as good as they can, only be told they are only a 2 star or 3 star? this sets them back, because good teams a la LSU, Florida, etc. won't look at them as extensively as a 4 star... this put them behind the 8 ball, so to speak, in terms of the future...

they won't have the same opportunities and chances that a big program recruit will have, and is that fair that just because someone watched a film and formed an opinion, they have to put into that situation...

that's why i get upset over the rankings!! i know most of you all don't see it that way, but i do... i just wish the recruiting service providers would list thier stats, measurables, and post their pros and cons... no rankings...

i stay away from the rant because of people like you. go back.

Miles? i never said anything about Miles... did you read anything that was said, or decided to drop this nugget of info all on your own?

and i don't bash miles... trust me, i have the "want" for Miles to get his head out of his arse, but considering it's pretty far up there, i just can't see it happening...

i understand it's a business, but to me, it's bad business...

it really hurts the large majority of borderline players... like i said they don't get the same offers and chances that someone who gets a 4 or 5 star rating, even if they are similar products...

another thing i dislike about the star rating system is the false sense of security that can come along when getting 5 or 4 star recruits.... it's like all the problems are over and the bar gets set high, then the player fails to live up to the hype, underperforms, etc. and everyone's like "he sucks!"... is it really fair to that player that he had so much expectation in the first place?

like i said, it has a purpose, but i just think it should be entertainment only, and for some it becomes gospel... i just can't understand that...

Before you spew ChRix, please bring it to the rant. Dont need to know how you feel about Miles or how players are developed, etc.,etc. This board is about potential LSU players and most members on this board do a pretty bang up job evaluating them.

IMO you should have started another thread on this, rather than to ruin this thread. Or not done this at all...

The casual fan alters a lot of things, this is no different.

Umm, no, LSU or Florida doesn't care where Rivals ranks a guy. That watch film and do in person evaluations.

So how do players from schools like Delaware get picked in the first round? The NFL will find you anywhere.

In case anyone is interested, LSU is now 6th place in the updated Rivals rankings. As I have said for a very long time, there is a huge drop off after 10.

i don't plan on talking about Miles at all... one of the other guys said i was talking about miles, which i didn't...

i can see this is the recruiting board... the discussion was about the new rivals rankings... my opinion that i chose to post about was how i felt about the rankings system in general... i am in the right forum, under the right topic... therefore i don't need to go anywhere to talk about this... i'm right where i should be, in terms of the discussion at hand...

No...you started this bullshite in the Spencer Ware post. If you wanted to state your agenda, you should've started a new thread. You shouldn't have tried to hi-jack the someone elses thread.

imo, i didn't need to start another thread... this was talking about rivals rankings, i had something to say, whether anyone wanted to hear it or not, so i stated my opinion... i didn't ruin this thread... i said what i said, someone attack me, i defend my position... i never once went after someone to start off my discussion... i was stating how i felt about the rivals rankings...

my opinion is about the fan's interpretation of the rankings... i know LSU scouts guys and they ain't waiting on Rivals to tell them who to select... it was a hypothetical...

most schools have workout days and the combine invites a large number of seniors from alot of schools, not just "big" schools... plus, some of the 2 or 3 star recruits, that should be ranked higher, if we're going to use the system, play to their ability, an ability that the pros in the rating game evidently missed... this basically supports my opinion, so thanks...

i know everyone like the whole star system... it gives them validity to saying we had a "great" class... but i just don't think you can say you had a "great" class until they actually play and contribute, then you can pass judgement...

First of all, a large reason guys are ranked as highly as they are is because of the schools who are pursuing them. I'd say that's one of, if not THE biggest factor. Sure players slip through the cracks, but that happens everywhere.

another thing i dislike about the star rating system is the false sense of security that can come along when getting 5 or 4 star recruits.... it's like all the problems are over and the bar gets set high, then the player fails to live up to the hype, underperforms, etc. and everyone's like "he sucks!"... is it really fair to that player that he had so much expectation in the first place?

That's the nature of all of sports. It happens at every level. When team x pays x millions of dollars to come in a be a contributor and he blows the fans ride them. If players can't deal with expectations of fanbases and coaches, then it says something about their mental toughness.

Now, can fans be ridiculous and impatient? Always. Just as you seem to be regarding Les Miles... by your own admission you are holding him to a ridiculous standard and expecations. WHy should Miles be expected to win the SEC every year and field a team with the world's best offense and defense? It's not fair to Miles for you to expect that according to your own logic.

quote:

like i said, it has a purpose, but i just think it should be entertainment only, and for some it becomes gospel... i just can't understand that...

and like i said... there's not that many good posters on this board who hold to star rankings as gospel. most of us formulate our own opinions of players. i'm glad spencer ware got his 5th star because i think he's that good and he deserves it but if he had never played at the aa bowl and received no bump i'd still value him just as highly as would most of the other posters on this board.

Fine...you didn't bring up Miles. I thought you had - my bad.

That said, there's a difference between stating your point and wrapping your ridiculous point in a pillow-sack and continuously beating us over the head with it.

Understood...you don't like the system.

THEN STOP FOLLOWING IT!

I don't like Vietnamese food, but you don't see me on the Food Board bashing the recipes and the people that eat it.

If you can formulate an opinion that doesn't include ripping the baseball, mom, and apple pie ideas that make up the Recruiting Board then fine, we welcome the discussion. Until then you are just going to be considered the Al-Qaeda of the board.
