But more importantly, here's to hoping Jennings, Harris... and McMillan... push each other and all have solid-- hopefully great-- careers at LSU.

I haven't read the entire thread, so don't know if you're veering from your original position to make a point. In any case, if you want to nitpick, it would be less likely for Harris to leave. He is chasing the presumed starter (Jennings) and even if he never beat Jennings out, he would have one year of eligibility to take over the reins after Jennings graduates... possibly two, though the odds of him redshirting this year are slim even if Jennings does win out and play almost every snap.

Jennings, on the other hand, has been a starter (however briefly), so if he gets beat out, he may perceive it as a demotion. From all accounts, Jennings is supposed to be a good guy and a team player, but it isn't out of the realm of possibilities that he could feel a little let down and have an itch to move on if Harris wins the battle-- especially since he would run out of eligibility before Harris graduates or goes pro.

All of this is well thought out, and won't argue for a second.

And yes, I was just trying to make a point, of course I don't think Harris leaves after this year even if he redshirts.

What I was originally getting at is that saying Jennings might leave after this year, at this point in time, is essentially calling him a quitter, which I don't believe is fair to the kid. This is a guy that worked his way up the depth chart quickly, and got his chance to shine because of an injury. He will never be below 2nd string in his career at LSU. I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt to say he doesn't get his feelings hurt and bolt and stay to help his team win championships. Let's say he does get passed up by game 1; the backup QB is important part of any team, especially in college and especially given our situation. If he were to eave, after the spring no less, we would be in far worse shape than we are now. I just don't think he would put us in that position, meanwhile sitting out a year.

tl;dr-let's not just assume every kid on our team that doesn't get playing time is going to leave, as no team will ever win a championship with that kind of attrition. Also, it would hurt us greatly to lose Jennings, not every kid thinks strictly about himself.

Fair enough.

After perusing the thread a little more, both sides of the argument have valid points. Certainly, the staff has to plan on bringing in backups to account for any contingency (from injury... to not panning out... to the possibility of a transfer), but I agree with you that it isn't fair to Jennings to overtly question how dedicated he might be at some future time... which is why I felt inclined to add my second post wishing them all successful careers, which is possible. Case in point: Matt Cassel sat behind Leinart pretty much his entire college career at USC, still got drafted and has had a fairly solid pro career. I would suspect Cameron could help both Jennings & Harris make that next step however the playing time shakes out.

All that said, I'll refrain from posting about that part of the conversation anymore so that the thread will hopefully go back to McMillan. I haven't seen the film yet (not that I know enough to judge well), but agree with others that Cameron & Miles must've liked him well enough on his own merit to offer him, though friendship with D. Lodge doesn't hurt.

I think that's true. If he's a 4-star with the same exact film this board is ecstatic. Because he's a three-star everyone looks at him with much more scrutiny. Cam has been around enough great QBs to know what a good one looks like. I also guarantee the kid is bright.

Nah, he's a poor mans Brent Schaeffer. More raw, not quite as fast. Brandon Harris was pretty raw as a JR though. He's got room for improvement, I don't but see a definite college starter in the film. He threw 10 int's last year, and was also throwing to one of the best WR's in the country.

He looks like he's rated where he should be, but may have a bigger upside. He'll show what he's capable of this seasons.

watching his film he looks good. I think he is not rated that high because of his size, but he is a lefty who is putting the ball on the money.
