Obviously it’s still early, but the portal is heating up and moves will need to be made. Here are the guys I’d be taking on right now or at the very least, strongly considering.

QB - If there’s any question about Nuss next season, I’d be very open to Dante Moore or Dillon Gabriel.

WR - Will Sheppard | Zavion Thomas | Ja’Mori Maclin

DL - This will depend on how well we can retain. I’d love to see Maason and Wingo back next year… even one of them returning would be nice. Regardless, we should take a few DL.

Walter Nolen (unlikely but a definite take) | Xzavier McLeod (need to replenish the ‘23 DT class) | LT Overton | Hamlin from JUCO

CB - Toriano Pride | Jyaire Brown

S - Andrew Mukuba | Jardin Gilbert | Key Lawrence

I think we should be good at most other positions. Trey Moore and Chris Paul Jr. should get a look, but I like Wonack/ Swinson at EDGE and Perkins/ Weeks at LB.

Even if there are no questions about Nuss you take a QB for experienced depth

Where do you think Wingo or Smith would be going?

Ambitious and unrealistic.

Currently, we are sitting at 95 scholarship players (69 on roster with eligibility left and 26 commitments) after the 4 announced transfers and before draft declarations and additional out-going transfers. Presently, that is 10 over the 85 roster limit.

It is safe to assume there will be at least two early entrants to the draft (Nabers and Thomas) and at least two more transfers (Harris and Chestnut). So 91. That will mean attrition of at least 6 more players before you add more commitments and incoming transfers.

In order to take 12 transfers as you suggested, LSU would have to shed 18 more players from the current roster.

It is apparent that this year's portal class will be much smaller than previous portal classes and the takes will be more strategic, quality over quantity.

They are expecting about 10 transfers out. We are going to have more people that leave for the draft early. We always have 1 or 2 head scratchers.

Definitely.

There will be additional early entrants in addition to Thomas and Nabers. Any of Dellinger, Turner, Frazier, Saivon Jones, Penn, Diggs, Burns, Wingo and/or Smith could potentially forgo remaining eligibility and enter the draft.

10 total transfers out of the program less the four announced = 6 less the 2 presumed = 4 more transfers out.

Worst case scenario, all 9 declare and another 4 tranfers out:

91 - 9 - 4 = 78. leaving 7 spots for Relaford and other recruits and transfers.

We aren’t getting the majority of those guys you listed. Gabriel and Moore are going elsewhere. Pride and Mukuba also not coming here. Thomas, Gilbert and Maclin are likely. Nolen and Hamlin also are not.

I mean, that’s how this works, right? You just choose who you want and then you get them.

Easy peasy.

I don't think the staff has given up on Hamlin yet.

I didn’t say we would get all of them. I just said that these were either guys we should pursue or at least consider.

In some positions, sure. We could use top DL and top DBs. We have playing time to offer and this big brand.

As the portal continues, more elite players will enter and a lot of these guys will not be the top players at their position.

Sheppherd, Thomas at WR. Gilbert at S. Hamlin at DT. Brown at CB.

That’s all for now. See where other chips fall.
