It’s not about adding a player with a high PPG to the team. You need scorers at every position to beat S. Carolina and other top teams these days. There are too many variables in a basketball game such foul trouble, injuries, and poor shooting performances/an off night etc. What makes S Carolina so dangerous is that any one of their rotational players can hurt you scoring on any given day. In order to compete for championships you have to match that. You should have learned that from this season. HVL couldn’t break anybody down off the dribble, and she did not deliver when we needed her to step up with points in big moments like when Angel was in foul trouble etc. This kid can distribute and score baskets at all 3 levels, which will open up opportunities for her talented teammates. The days of the big 3 are long over bro.

I’ll trust CKM on this one per usual.

You can win & build a roster in many different ways as long as they compliment one another.

LSU doesn’t need a 4th player to score 20ppg like Olsen.

They need complimentary pieces, someone that doesn’t want to shoot the ball every time down. She would need to tone her game down big time

Not true. Raven Johnson started for South Carolina and averaged 8 ppg but was the best perimeter defender they had

She held Clark in check when they were matched against one another

You know why lsu lost to Iowa. Our starting pg couldn’t cover a bed with a blanket

If lsu had a raven Johnson instead of HVL they beat Iowa

She would be a complementary piece to the puzzle. She wouldn’t have to average 23 ppg either, but it’s nice to have a PG who’s very capable of getting you buckets when you need them. Think of Alexis Morris in the NCG against Iowa in the 4Q. She took over the game as a PG with her mid range game to bury them. As the roster stands today heading into next year, LSU only has 4 proven scorers. S. Carolina has about 8 or 9 returning next year. How do you suppose we compete with that? Again, you need a stacked roster with players that sub in and out with little to no drop off in team performance. Otherwise, teams are playing for second place/runner up prize every season.

Defense will always be important, but think about Raven. Whenever S Carolina needed a big bucket against LSU, she either took HVL off the dribble and scored or spotted up to nail a 3. Again, you need several players who are capable of getting big baskets on the floor NOT just 2-3 players. Any one of S Carolina’s players can beat you scoring NOT just 2-3 players. Each of them
could average double figures.

Being capable of hitting an occasional big shot and being a volume scorer are 2 totally different things

LSU made it to the Elite 8 with 5 volume scorers this year and a very limited bench. The very limited bench production and the lack of a true PG killed this year’s team. If LSU takes the next step with a deeper roster of players capable of hurting you offensively, then they will have the right balance to sub players in and out of the game with little
to no drop off. You can’t have starters going to the bench to rest, then you are wondering where the points are going to come from while they rest.

I must have missed it but did any of you know how many years she has left?

Can she though? Career averages are 3.7 AST and 1.8 TO per game. 2024 was 3.8 AST and 2.5 TO.

For comparison HVL averaged 3.6 AST and 2.6 TO per game last year.

So if fans weren't happy with the PG production from HVL, why would Olsen be any different?

Well we knew HVL was gonna be limited defensively and as a true point when she came here based on her track record but her offense was kinda a flop here, and that was a issue more than anything. Unfortunately not many true points in the portal so lsu may have to get creative again. If they have to hopefully they add a guard with quickness and athleticism to be solid on defense.

LSU didn't have any "volume scorers" last year.

Morrow lead the team in field goal attempts by a large margin, with 519 shots; but she still shot 46.4%. Her team leading 14 FGA per game puts her at 93rd in the nation. Not what I'd consider a volume scorer. Even though she has been tabbed as a high volume scorer, HVL attempted the least amount of FGs among the starters at 328 FGA.

Olsen shot the ball 710 times, 20.3 times per game, and at a lower FG% than any of LSU's starters outside of HVL. She also shot a worse 3PT% than any of LSU's starting guards and tied with Poa at 29.4%.

As long as we get a point guard that can move their feet and play defense. Hailey struggled on the defensive side of the ball

To be clear, we had a starting 5 of players who are all technically volume scorers. They altered their game to play collectively as a super team at LSU. Angel, Nees, HVL, Flau’jae and MK…are you kidding me?

You would be amazed at how a player’s assists per game can improve when they are surrounded by great talent. Olsen had to put up a lot of shots at NOVA in order for them to be competitive just like Clark had to do at Iowa.

She had the leading scorer in the country in '23 and her assists numbers were only slightly better.

I often look at players, specifically PGs, in the women's basketball portal and they hardly ever have more then 4 or 5 assists. Maybe I haven't looked enough.

At LSU, she would be surrounded by several talented shot makers not just one, which will help open up her offensive game as well. A lot of great passes don’t always turn into an assist. Check out the assist leaders list this season. The national champions do NOT have a player on the list.

Here’s a list of the assist leaders this season. It’s a lot easier to get assists on a team with spot up shooters such as Iowa. Note that no S Carolina PG is on the list yet they share the ball well on a team filled with scorers.
