Half of these players aren't even in the portal.

Yes Gilbert is in portal and likely going to pop for LSU soon. Matthews isn’t yet but is deciding if he will enter or not.

I've heard recently that the staff was looking at adding less than 10

I know that's the case but plans can change depending on the player. If he fits the tangibles you want in a player you take him if possible.

We absolutely need quality over quantity. Having to rebuild an entire roster from 37 scholarship players takes a little time so we had to take quantity. I do feel we need to be selective at this point.

LSU is 124 and 130 in special teams efficiency the past two seasons STs is no longer a luxury; it’s a major issue

WTF is "special teams efficiency"?

We missed 3 FG's all season and went 73/73 on PAT's.
We were #67 in KOR average.
We were #71 in opponents KOR average
We were #27 in punt return average.
We were #3 in opponenets punt return average.
We were #71 in punting average - something we only did 21 times in 2023. 9 fewer than any team in the nation and 30 less than the median number of 53.

So how are we #130 in the nation in "special teams efficiency"?

CB1
WR1
Starting Safety (if you land Bussey no need)
Depth CB/NB

A Louisiana kid in the portal should be a target and signed only if he is a legit SEC talent. Signing kids because they are from Louisiana whose best offers coming out of high school was ULM or Georgia State with no offers from SEC schools and/or other D1 Power 5 programs doesn't help. Can a player developed, yes, but there is a reason the offers weren't coming out of high school.

Why do you not have DT on the list? We saw how different Maason was post injury; same could happen with Wingo. Will Maason return to pre-injury level of play? Only other tackles are Guillory and Jalen Lee. I probably would make DT our top portal priority, but should at least make your list.

I don’t think you “need” a portal DT this cycle if you land McKinley out of HS
Smith/Washington/Lee
Wingo/Guillory/McKinley/Johnson

Would be good for 2024 but definitely will probably need to add a couple through portal after next season.

I don't see McKinley getting a lot of pt as a freshman. I sure hope we add to that room from the portal.

Updated with some new names. A few quality DBs. Need to get about 3 DBs and atleast 1 or 2 DL.

Hopefully Frank can work Houston pipeline for DT JaMaree Caldwell; otherwise we are waiting for new possibilities in the Spring.

Lands grab a couple DTs and a couple high level DBs and let’s ride.

I am sure the staff will target some dline starters to take from smaller schools that aren't in the portal yet. Hopefully Shone can step up in a big way.

Dylan Carpenter is a name I haven't heard mentioned, I wonder if he will step up.

CJ Daniels Liberty 1,000 yard receiver. visiting this weekend. Was 8th highest graded receiver in country per PFF this season. Would be a nice get. 6’2 200lbs.
