LSU Softball Offers two at 2013 Camp, One Commits
Posted by Mulerider on 7/7/13 at 6:29 pm10
Local products Akiya Thymes (Brusly, 2015) and Nicky Dawson (Parkview Baptist, 2016) both received offers from LSU Softball coach Beth Torina.
Thymes, an outfielder, has been a potent leadoff hitter the last two season and has more recently positioned herself to become the first LSU and SEC softball player in the program's history from Brusly.
LSU Coach Beth Torina pulled the rising junior speedster aside last Tuesday after a camp, offered a spot in the 2015 recruiting class and received a quick verbal commitment.
Her Uncle, Derrick Thymes, and aunt, Debbie Parris-Thymes, ran track for the Tigers in the early 1990s, with Parris-Thymes having just completed her 12th season as an assistant on Coach Dennis Shaver's staff.
Thymes carried a .477 batting average this season, third on the hot-hitting squad behind Carlie Comeaux and Lanesha Taylor. Her career average is .483.
Torina's staff clocked Thymes as taking just 2.5 seconds from home to first base, 5.4 seconds from second to home and 11.1 seconds from home to home.
That speed and timing has fueled a 98 percent success rate of 55 stolen bases in 56 attempts in two seasons.
The Panthers still went on to a program-record 29-game winning streak and first state championship since 1991.
Thymes was one of four Brusly players to earn all-state honors as a result.
Thymes sees continuing to work in the weight room and improve her strength as one of her biggest areas for potential growth during the second half of her high school career.
She knows plenty of time remains between now and the day she can eventually sign and make her college plans official.
Dawson, a shortstop at Parkview Baptist, is scheduling an unofficial visit to LSU before making a commitment. The 5'7" unanimous All State player had 31 stolen bases as a freshman this season for the Eagles. She is already the Parkview Baptist career leader in hits, steals and runs scored despite having three years of high school eligibility remaining. This past season, she broke the single season school batting average record set by current LSU player Jacee Blades by posting a .505 average. Dawson was an all district performer for the Eagles as a 7th grader and an All State selection as both an 8th grader and freshman.
The LSU staff timed the soon to be sophomore speedster at 2.54 to first, 5.38 to second and 11.08 home to home. Dawson is coached by LSU All American Ashlee Ducote and is 90-92 in her career in stolen bases.

The article may be new, but both have been offered way before the article came out. Thx for posting though!

Pitching is already taken care of.

She's got the #1 pitcher for 14 and 15! Pitching won't ever be a concern

Was the Hemphill girl at the camp?

Yup, she is a huge steal out of the north, the kid can hit!!!Top 30 player in the country. She can do it all, slap and hit for power. Major impact when she reaches campus. How we got her from Ohio SState, Michigan, Oregon, and Tennessee, it amazes me. She recently visited LSU and fell in love with the coaches, facilities and campus!

If Cunningham is a better athlete/player than the other 2016 shortstop from Parkview I will be shocked. Things are looking good in Tiger town.

I'm gonna tell y'all a name to remember, Josie Robertson from Laurel, Ms. She hasn't traveled too much, as her dad doesn't want to put too much on her too early. But she played with her high school team last year and is playing on a 18u travel team and I believe she is only 13! Big girl 5'11 already (dad Is 6'3 and a Jones Junior college HOF football player). Hard thrower who is "effectively wild" If memory serves me correct she has the same pitching coach as Cat did growing up.

My understanding is that LSU is not pursuing the Hemphill kid. I am somewhat confused about this as I have been told that Arizona, Alabama, Miss. State, UL and Tennessee are after her along with an assortment of mid major schools. If Beth is indeed making offers to 2016's, why in the heck wouldn't she be making an offer to a kid who cleaned up on every high school award out there as a freshman. I have seen her play and she is the real deal. Has the kid indicated that she does not want to go to LSU?

this loses your credibility, its between LSU andULL. You have no clue what you are talking about, even if we didn't get her, our recruiting will make up for it. We are snagging top recruits from around the country, #1 pitcher from Cali 2014, #1 pitcher class of 2015. We are raiding Texas, and we grabbed the #1 player out of Ohio recently. Beth is targeting players with speed that hit for high averages and she's bringing in power hitters this team has been missing over the past 10 years. The hiring of beth Is now turning into a hidden gem we snagged, it also helps when our coaches have connections with the national team and professional softball teams. I am already writing up a huge preview and in depth detail of what to expect next season, it talks about newcomers, who to watch, projections, line up predictions, matchups and analyzing the schedule.

Parkview has had some great teams as well. That's incredible.
