Losing 2 schollys sucks but shouldn't hurt us as long as the staff is selective and does a good job of evaluating.

How many can we take now with this combined with attrition, etc.?? Will we greyshirt some?

The Staff has known this would happen for sometime. They are more than ready.

Why do they bother letting this info out btw? Why not release it just to the NCAA and ask them to keep it private.

Seems like it's something that doesn't even need to be public to me.

* a reduction of initial scholarship recipients by two for the 2011-12 incoming class

* a reduction of the overall scholarship counters by two for the 2011-12 academic year

* a reduction of the total number of National Letter of Intent/SEC scholarship papers that can be offered to prospective student-athletes by two for the February 2011 signing date.

Nothing to sneeze at

this is the perfect year to do it since I get the feeling they were only looking to sign 22-23 players anyhow

So we can only have 83 scholly players on the roster next year? Numbers are already tight and this will make the attrition go up

I expect attrition to be business as usual, but we just won't sign as many this year, so the numbers will all work themselves out. We have a very young team, so I could easily see some oler players moving on and this having a minimal to no effect in the grand scheme of thing

This is just in repsponse to the violations we reported before this season. Nothing to see here

No. Thousands of improper phone calls to recruits, families, etc found, in addition to what was reported months ago.

don't see how this could end up being anything big. So far, we've fired the coach who committed the offense, ran off the player who received benefits (live in a coach's house for a little while I believe), and self-imposed scholly restrictions.

There were additional findings invloving others.

The initial violations involved former assistant coach D.J. McCarthy and defensive lineman Akiem Hicks.
But the LSU report also stated that thousands of improper phone calls between non-coaching football staffers and recruits, their families, high school coaches or administrators were discovered after the initial violations were reported in March.

I felt we were only going to sign 23 or so with the current numbers. The attrition still would have been high. Now, if we sign 23 the attrition will have to be the equivalent of signing 25 before the sanctions. If we sign 23 we will have to lose 10 players. Here is my thread from a while ago on the numbers that I updated.

We can just hope that Auburn gets what they deserve later--today, LSU fans are somewhat disappointed with the news, but at least the school shows a sense of ethics, something Auburn has never practiced, apparently. LSU, Georgia, North Carolina
are examples of schools who did the right things & self imposed restrictions on far less serious offenses than Auburn, who did nothing except try their best to cover it up.
