What does this mean in terms of Ed Oliver. I assume we are taking the 4 DT from Louisiana and hoping Ed joins in.

Gotta do the due diligence and have a back up plan for oliver. Still a long way to go.

Have to think out of all the DTs we are going after 1 or 2 might end up at DE with Bain kicking out to DE. O likes a big DE in his lineup.

it means we may not take the lowest rated la. dt if we can find a better talent. it doesn't sound good for jones from tx.

Nothing is guaranteed so I'd assume they're just doing a little due diligence. I just hope the DT domino's start to fall soon so we can lock that up and move on to line backer. Linebacker has to be the most important area this cycle.

Ed is likely going to Houston and has nothing to do with the lack of effort on LSU's part.

Agreed. I would also assume with a great DL and DB class, the LB would love to fit in that middle of all that talent. At least I would.

Nothing like some space eaters up front which allow the LBs to make plays...

I don't see this as having anything to do with Ed Oliver (or Kendall Jones). It has everything to do with LSU covering their asses. Staffs everywhere are constantly twiddling with their "totem poles" for pecking orders of different positions.

If LSU were to somehow lose out on Oliver, Lawrence, Logan, and Jones (for whatever reasons) - we damn well better have some backup plans in place (with existing relationships having already been established). Is Elliot 5th on our D-Tackle totem? 7th? Who knows? Regardless, our staff has got to get to know him (and have him get to know us).

It's survival.

Definitely, and I see Stephon Taylor and Glen Logan as having the ability to play DE

I hope once the season starts Oliver realizes that LSU is his best fit.

The main thing is...the future is bright at DT...a must position for any defense to be effective...there's no way to disguise a weak DT position...we saw the results early last year...Coach is solving that crap!
