I have been follow recruiting since Kevin Faulk and Cecil. I am thoroughly convinced Louisiana players are under-evaluated and rated year over year. My rule of thumb for a Louisiana recruit is star ranking plus 1. I know they are not all hits but dang how many LA kids on other teams are straight up competing. In this day and age of the portal I believe a long-term success is taking a Louisiana first approach.

I’ll take a 3 star from Louisiana over a 4 star from Michigan all day.

I agree with this. Louisiana is a poor state and highschools dont always hire the best coaches. Get them in a program like LSU with a CBK style HC and then rush to judgement on their HS ranking.

Most of the 3s are actually 4s. Backwater high schools are not covered very well.

Agree. I know it’s not necessarily a realistic approach bc obviously you can land some good of state guys who you’d want but man if you were forced to sign 25 kids from Louisiana every year you’d be fine if you coach who can identify and develop talent

Seems like for 30 plus years I’ve seen Louisiana kids at “lesser schools” and thought damn we could use that kid. You just can’t sign them all but there’s so much talent in the state for sure

Not only from a coaching standpoint but also physically underdeveloped. You think the strength and conditioning program at school like John F Kennedy in New Orleans is anywhere close to a 5/6A school in Texas?

This is a great point.

It makes you wonder in a checken/egg kind of way too.

Are These 5a Texas guys maxed out with weights and football knowledge?

Are some five stars because they’ve reached their potential already?

It bet it makes the easily coachable.

Agree,

Dominick McKinley should be a 6*.

Consensus of the board is that he should be a 3* (could be because he committed to A&M)

Ah yes, the other side of the coin. Always overlooked in coping threads like these. Even if there is a modicum of truth in the message you still have to weigh both sides. LA has an equal history of 5* and high 4* busts. Ying and yang.

Georgia no doubt has a lot of talent by sheer numbers...but their population is wayyyy higher than both LA and MS. The right-most column accounts for a more "per-capita" distribution. LA and MS are the highest in that regard. Thus, I think it's to the point of the OP and others that our guys get underrated.

Probably more realistic is that maybe 1/2 of the LA 3 stars are 4 stars and maybe a couple 4s should be 5s… but I agree w OPs sentiment
