porter is the 2nd most important person on miles's staff after chavis. I think miles knows this and makes porter an offer. stay here, get a raise and you get the OC job after crowton (no time specified).

this might do it since chavis doesn't want to be head coach maybe porter could see that possibility 5 years down the road when miles leaves.

too risky

i could be wrong, but i have no faith in him as an OC at this point. he's shown nothing that makes me think he's capable

I think he is tighter than any other coach on ths staff with Les. Les definately will not want him to leave. I also think it would be hard for Coach Porter to leave Les and the guys he coaches on the team. Coach Porter is definately a very important part of one great coaching staff.

I surely hope not...Porter is our best recruiter and I don't want Miles filling the spot with BBQ buddies like Yano/Robinson...

We need to keep powerhouse recruiters on staff and Porter is definitely one of them...

Yano, Robinson, Crowton and Chavis are all lazy arse recruiters. We don't need another added to the staff.

Where in the hell do you guys get this stuff?

Porter has been with Miles for 8 years, while none of the other guys you named have any history with Miles until they arrived at LSU. Yet they are the BBQ buddies?

Also, this is a dumb thread because Memphis is not hiring a position coach to be their head coach, I don't care if he is a former star running back. They will have to make a fairly splashy hire (for that level) to attone for the Tommy West disaster. I expect them to go the Houston route and hire an up-and-coming coordinator. Malzahn will be on the short list.

Anyone know how much Porter is being paid? Most LSU coaches just got a raise.

I'm not sure that's the best career move for Porter but can't blame him if he takes it.
If I was Porter I would hope someone would offer a offensive coordinator role and hope that would be a spring board to a head coach role at a bigger school.

I'm pretty sure LSU would find the money to match, but I think he would have to take the job. It's too good of an oppurtunity and Memphis doesn't have a bad program.

not that i don't think he can do it, but it is a big jump from running back coach to head coach

Isn't that what Turner Gill did in Buffalo. Although, Memphis > Buffalo

Frank Wilson must make one hell of a dry rub to be on this staff; Gonzales was brought in to add a little Mex to our Tex

Not much Mex there, but I appreciate the effort.
