I hope we can flip him. I never figured we had a chance with him and we were just there for window dressing. But if he makes a visit then that means we have a chance to turn him into a tiger.

And conceding that LF is the biggest get in this LSU class, without question LCarter would be the biggest addition outside of LF.

I firmly believe that the one thing that this class is missing is a world class DL. Carter would be that for this class. With him this would be the best class in all of college football this year. Not talking about rival/espn/247 rankings. Talking about reality. Ours would be the best. Hoping he chooses LSU and becomes the next honeybadger. He already has the hair down pat!

Deondre Clark and Zo! The next Sam & Mingo!

It would be logical to keep the same scheme for at least a season or two. You don't just turn a switch and instantly have the players to change schemes over night.

Good point. I'm sure the highlights of a trip can vary greatly depending on who else is watching. From this old article...

LINK

... it does appear he's serious as a student. From the last paragraph:

quote:

According to Norcross basketball coach Jesse McMillan, Carter is an honors student, an active mentor for underclassmen at Norcross and a lunchtime volunteer for the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

I don't like trying to read the tea leaves too much but-- based on the above-- I'd say the parents coming indicates serious interest and intent to evaluate all the program offers. Not saying a party atmosphere wouldn't sway him if he takes any visits sans parents, but it looks like that won't be his priority either.

Need 100 little signs on the roadside that say "Welcome back Carter... the next Mingo!!!" and then Brick needs to slip into conversation at least 20 times the words "4-3 base" and "Mingo".
Heck, why not have Mingo there???

Nkemdiche's parents (neither or both) didn't come with him last year. All of the decision makers are coming with Lorenzo. That's certainly not bad!

Wrong

Carter also doesn't have a brother playing for Georgia.

Don't get your hopes up, but don't discount the fact that LSU is in it.

Could turn out to be significant. Mingo is certainly someone that Carter can relate to. Hell, everybody but OL gets along with him.

I'm hearing this is likely to happen. It's said that they'll "bump" into each other. This is coming from 247.

Quid pro quo means an exchange of goods or services, something given or received for something else...in this case their commitment for a shot at an NC or two, a degree, and a place in the NFL.

Mingo, Montgomery, and Edwards also did not visit until Jan 16th, 18th, and 24th, same timeframe as Carter & McDowell. M&M did not commit until NSD, only Edwards committed a week before. So unless he has a CG3 moment during his visit, though not impossible, it will be NSD before we know about him, McDowell, or Dupre.

His father wants him to go to LSU over UGA so yes he is willing to leave and his friends in Norcross say he is leaving (anecdotal FWIW). Les is his favorite coach and if he meets Mingo it shows Les is and has been pulling out the stops with both Carter and McDowell for months as they were among the first to get visits and re-visits after the dead period. Malik and Lorenzo are Mingo and Montgomery X 2, bigger, faster, stronger. Along with CG3 these two would form the core of possibly our best ever defense. Dominating Defenders

Lorenzo has a very grounded life with a great family and girlfriend whom Les has also spoken with...nice touch. You have to hand it to Carter and his family for saying no to Saban and Urban Meyer (said Meyer almost cried) and being receptive to Miles who Carter describes as down to earth, a great person and coach. Ditto for Haley whose in home visits set up both OVs by winning over the players and their parents.

Carter was the highest rated DE on the SPARQ test. SPARQ With their elite size and speed: MM 6-7/290 4.70, LC 6-5/232 4.63, LSU would once again have arguably the best pair of speed rushing ends, blowing by linemen and racking up quarterback sacks, fumbles, hurries, batted balls, sacks for loss, drawing double teams and holding penalties.

Because of their academic interests and their desire to play on the team "that puts DEs in the NFL", has a winning tradition, is SEC, and competes for NCs, I have always thought Miles and Co. will land them. If they do it will be like Michigan and Georgia lost LF7, so it would be a huge coup, a remarkable recruiting achievement.

Nice post Quid, but .... This is just one of those situations that is so great, if it happens, that we'll have to see it to believe it. I'm ready though.
