I know with 3 freshman coming in we would probably prefer to fill that last couple of spots with older more experienced transfers, but is there anyone in Kentucky's class we may want or could even possibly get? Assuming they don't just follow coach Cal to Arkansas.

Let's not set ourselves up for disappointment and safely assume they are going to Arkansas.

That's what happens when you lose a hall of fame coach

It's basically what happens when you lose any coach.

Looks like the White boy from Kentucky has signed but the kid from NJ who committed in December has not. So probably losing him too.

if anything they are most likely following Cal if I had to guess
It's not like LSU was recruiting these players before and they will have much better options

If I'm McMahon the best option for success right now is the portal and more experienced players to compete in the SEC

Exactly.

Many LSU fans think what happened to the LSU roster after Wade was fired was some sort of extreme anomaly brought on by an NCAA investigation that McMahon needs "years:" to overcome. The reality is if a school makes a coaching change expect the new HC to be left with a barren roster.

Like Calipari said in his opening press conference at Arkansas. "I met with the team today....there is no team."

This does not always happen. In the past current players had to sit out a year upon transferring even if there was a coaching change. The only exception was an incoming freshman who signed with a coach who left the school. This is how Wade was able to get Tremont Waters when Georgetown released him after Patrick Ewing was fired. Wade's termination and McMahon's hiring coincided with the open portal / immediate eligibility changes ,

What so many of you continue to ignore is that McMahon inherited a program facing draconian sanctions. It doesn't matter what was ultimately imposed at the time the threat was used against LSU when competing for recruits and transfers. Had there been no pending sanctions and Wade just left for another job it likely a core group of players would have remained and possibly some of the incoming recruits . Regardless no one can argue McMahon has the program trending in a positive direction and they can crack the 20 win barrier with a top 4 or 5 SEC finish the future will be very brigt. Even a top half of the league again would be good if they get a bid to th e NCCA tournament

I didn't mean pre freedom of transfer era. But you have fans still today that think what happened to LSU was some great outlier. While it may have been one of the first instances of complete roster turnover, it has become commonplace. In fact, Kanas St., Missouri, Iowa St., St. John's, Ole Miss, etc all experienced significant roster turnover in response to a coaching change.

"draconian sanctions"

And yet, facing those impending "draconian sanctions" he signed what was rated a top 20 HS class and a top 20 transfer class that offseason. That doesn't sound like players being scared off by the impending doom that was NEVER going to occur.

Highly doubtful given what has happened with essentially every other major conf. coaching change. Most players leave when their coach leaves...for whatever reason he leaves. It happened at K-State, it happened at a bad Iowa St. team. It happened at Arkansas with Calipari coming in. It's happening at Kentucky. It happened at Ole Miss. It happened at St. John's with Rick Pitino coming in. And on, and on, and on. The SAME thing would have happened at LSU.

The performance in SEC play was an improvement. No one can argue with that. But in this day and age, with so much roster turnover, from year to year (for example, half...maybe over half... of LSU's roster this season will be new) it's hard to guarantee success in one season will carry over to the next, though we all hope it does.

Nonsense. It is rare when an entire roster is zeroed out. Kentucky had a bunch of players who wanted to play on an all star team like their AAU and Academy days. LSU had the double blow of the coach getting fired so suddenly and getting the NOA.
