From 2019 class, entered the transfer portal in October of 2019. Can confirm he is back on the team. Don’t know whether he’s on scholarship or a PWO, but he’s back. Great to have more depth at LB

Imagine he is back on scholarship if he doesnt count against the 25, only the 85. We should have room

I think he just stopped playing football and stayed at LSU as a regular student.

I think he’s going to fit the 4-3 better. If I remember correctly, he’s fast and aggressive coming down hill. Perfect Thumper.

Can anyone shed light on why he left the team? I really liked his film coming out of high school.

I think he was diagnosed with some type of Heart ailment. Hopefully, he can return to the field.

Let's see...2019 redshirt, 2020 covid? Am I correct in saying he still has four years to play?

Regardless, I'm glad to see him back. Hopefully he's healthy and can have a nice career.

I’m impressed that he shrank two inches from his 6-5 235 back in HS.

Great depth if he has stayed in football shape, or will get that for next year by coming back this year. Filling and adding a player in a position of need.

We also have the Clemson transfer who started at Clemson (Mike Jones Jr.) and the big beast in the middle who transferred from JC (Navonteque Strong)

Baskerville got his shite together so he is back with the team, and hopefully Damone Clark will be back to his 2019 self where he excelled under Aranda. Also, we have Josh White and

Linebackers on Roster

LB/ODE/Rush end

BJ Ojulari
Phillip Webb
Soni Fonua
Zavier Carter
Desmond Little

Pure LB

Mike Jones Jr.
Damone Clark
Micah Baskerville
N Strong
Josh White
Antoine Sampah
Jared Small (led the team in tackles in spring game)
Greg Penn III
Kendall McCallum

14 total

Other LB on team/Practice Squad guys/Walk ons

Hunter Faust (Jesuit)
Dylan Thompson (Ranchview HS)
Sloan Wright (STM)
Aaron Benfield (E.D. White)

18 total LB, so we can find 3 starters and 3-4 quality back ups in our 4-3 defense

The big key to this year from last is a lot more depth and the new LB coach Blake Baker plus the overall Def having Daronte Jones as DC over Pelini

Talent Galore:

Ojulari and Webb are awesome talents outside/end and Jones, Clark, Baskerville, Strong, Penn III are all talented with others behind them to man the middle and some outside rush sets.

White and Sampah should be almost ready to contribute so I see the LB room as solid compared to what it looked like last year.

And, we have another talent in Devonta Lee if they play him at LB, but he is listed at WR now.

Good post.

I’ve been concerned about the LB position mostly out of ignorance. But because I read your post I feel better about the position.

Signing Mike Jones was big. Outside of him, Clark, and Baskerville it feels like there’s some ?’s. Hopefully, Strong can contribute now and give Sampah and White one more year to get ready.

Between Strong, Baskerville, Clark, and mike Jones and the guys who were freshman last year in Sampah and White I think we actually have a better group than most think. Add in coaching that is sure to be night and day better, I think we’ll be just fine at linebacker.

He is not on the roster on LSUSports.net as of right now. it is pretty up to date and includes walkons. It has Major Burns included. Hope it shows up - I had high expectations for him coming in.

It’s definitely not up to date. Pig Cage and Dylan Gibbs are walk-ons and not listed. Also none of the freshman besides EE have numbers.

I did not forget Anthony as he is a true DE at 6'3" 255-260, with explosive speed to disturb the QB. The ones I listed are true LB, Hybrid LB/DE/Rush specialists (like BJ Ojulari) in the mold and size of a normal LB- 6'3" 235ish, except for Fonua, but they list him on the roster as an outside LB, but at 268 has the weight of a natural 4-3 DE.
