Keke Mingo vs Arden Key

Coming out of high school Keke Mingo was 6'5" 209lbs. When he left LSU he was 6'5" 240lbs.
Arden Key comes in at 6'5" 230lbs. I can see him adding 5lbs or more in the next 6 months.
Anyone think he sees the field early??

With BeBe coaching him he will be ahead of the game.

Considering we lost both our starting DEs and the only 1 with significant PT is Bower... Yes Key will play.

yet we very nearly could have ended this class only bringing in one DE...

Only in pass rush situations maybe. He is a great prospect, but right now he is too light at 225 and does not have the point of attack strength. Give him a year on the strength program.

I'll take the over on the weight gain. Hopefully he can get to around 245 quickly and can fill out to 255-260 by his junior year. Orgeron is about to turn this kid into a millionaire.

Bower is like 235lbs right now and is the only guy on the team that has and significant PT and is pretty much our starter at 1 DE spot next year.
And Key has been listed in the 230s... He could easily be 235lbs by the time August comes around. Especially considering Moffitt is our strength coach.
And Mingo played a lot at a lighter weight and we had some good depth.

Which is why I find it hard to believe that CeCe didn't entertain the idea of wearing purple and gold. So much early PT

Mingo redshirted his first year.

A year or two with coach Moffitt will be awesome for this kid

Key will play, but don't forget Deondre Clark. Dude got some nice minutes in there.

I expect Steele to stand him up similar to Lorenzo Carter with UGA this year. Will be a nightmare coming off the edge out of a 2 pt stance. Same with Sione.

Mingo was much faster, but raw. He redshirted as well.

He'll be a situational passing rusher this year. I expect us to do some 3/4 this year with he and Bower/Teuhema as the OLBs.

.2 is pretty significant. Especially when Mingo's is laser at the combine.

Key is a more refined DE by a ton at this point, but Mingo was extremely quick and fast for a DE. It's hard to say Key will be better because we don't know how he will progress, but he's ahead as an incoming freshman. This should end up being a pretty good comparison after their careers at LSU.
