has the recruiting success he's realized in his first few years been more a result of LSU recruiting itself (to some extent) coupled with a few assistant coaches who can really recruit (e.g. Porter)?

Just wondering what you guys think. I often hear the argument made for Miles that "He is a great recruiter", but I'm wondering how much of that is actually LES MILES and how much is the LSU name & facilities, and a few good recruiters on the coaching staff NOT named Les Miles.

I hear the practice facility and dorms are really good in recruits' homes, they really make the parents feel at ease.

seems like most top guys have a 'recruiter' that gets creditted. Hard to tell how much is staff or head coach. Overall, he and/or his regime has done very well.

Final answer: Good recruiter

We'll see how good he is if Larry Porter takes the Memphis job.

I have doubts about his coaching/development but you can't bash the man on recruiting. He does a great job in this area.

Some people can't give Miles credit for anything. I don't think he's a top 5 coach like some on here, but damn....

LSU will always have comparable talent to win the SEC which in turn allows you to compete for national titles.

Biggest thing that was done was keeping the best players in state and supplementing whatever the state did not have by dipping into Texas, Florida, etc.

He was a very good recruiter at OSU and he is very good at LSU. He is plain speak; tells it like it is; sells the program, academics, playing for the home team angle, facilities, SEC reputation, national exposure for the best athletes, schedule, etc.

He's great with parents, which you just can't make up for.

Complete opposite of his dealings with the media.

Patrick Peterson said he came to LSU because he believed in Les Miles. Les is a great recruiter. Arguing against it is ridiculous.

It's hand in hand, but yes, he's great. He's phenomenal in the living rooms, which is killer. And players always rave about him and how much they like him as a person.

Les is the absolute best recruiter that we have ever had. Absolute best and that is the strongest part of his game.

Saban was pretty damn solid too.

But, Les is a great recruiter. He sells the program to parents very well. He is a nice, genuine man and parents like that and as everybody knows "what momma wants, momma usually gets" with most of these boys.

I'm not impressed with McKnight and Reed and I would throw in Loadholt, Lacey & Bolden.

We should have had all of them suited up at some point.
