Louisiana is down, hell, this whole recruiting cycle is down. There aren't a whole lot of overly impressive recruits for this year. This is not gonna be a class that lights the world on fire, but the most important thing is that we're filling needs. Canada needs pieces for his offense and that's exactly what we're getting.
Next year's class will be (and partially already is) loaded with star power.

from O, aranda and canada. They know talent when they see it.
do they?

Wisconsin, NC State, and Ole Miss never had elite talent.

The reason kids are rated 4 and 5 stars is because they have dominated for a few years in high school and at different camps/all-star games etc..This to me is looking like Coach O and the coaching staff is getting lazy.I understand that there is a potential j. hester or m. claiborne every few years but over the last 15 years how many of LSU's starters were 3 star guys out of high school.
I know lsu is loaded this year but are they doing this because they figure these guys will develop in 2 to 3 years? In this day and age you need freshman to step up and play immediately for depth and right now this class concerns me offering before they even have had a senior year to show if they are the real deal.

"Star gazing" is not some kind of mythical fantasy rather a statistical fact. Higher rated players are statistically more likely to succeed at an elite level at he next level. It is not to say that 3 stars cannot be successful but they are statistically less likely. "Trusting the coaches" is on the ~8 3 stars we take each year. Otherwise, LSU should be loading up on Top 300 players annually.

What would you know about elite players as a Rutgers fan?

It's troubling, but there is one major thing to realize...these are commits, not scholarships. People will come and people will go. If people think we aren't still going hard for the top elite are delusional. A 5-star won't run from us because of a 3-star....the 3-star will leave if we sign the 5-star. It's ok to have backups first instead of vice versa.

Remember Etienne last year? What would have happened if we offered him in May, and he committed. Then we still went for Akers, but we missed. I like this tactic more. You can still recruit elite players hard while getting fallback players to commit.

Stop. We are recruiting players of need that want to be at LSU. Non of this is concerning at all. The only reason any of you are concerned is because there is a certain number of 3 star recruits. That's it. Not that is matters, but Jenkins, Provens, Curry, Baskerville, and possibly Washington will all be 4 star players when it's said and done. Also the two Texas Tech transfers are very appealing to the star gazers.

Now if this was happening with next years class where it is star studded and in state loaded...yes, that's when I would start being concerned. But not this year. Not even close.

There is no shortage of players who "want" to be at LSU. It is a Top 10 program in the country with some of the very best facilities, a rabid fan base, and one of the greatest sporting venues in the world. LSU can be damn selective because most people "want" to be here.

My concern is not star rating but overall scholarship slots compared to team needs.

Still need
1. At least 1 ot.
2. At least 3 wr.
3. At least 2 of the remaining cb/db.
4. Probably 1 qb.
5. Probably 1 nt/dt.

At the rate we are accepting commitments we will need several decommitments for the numbers to work.

Agreed 100 percent. Your numbers and need positions are on point. Not sure how all this will play out, but it will be interesting for sure.

Looking at it again, we may be able to take 1 less WR and only take 3 or 4 total instead of 4 or 5, now that we have Jefferson committed enrolling in the fall as a part of the 2017 class.
