have the number 1 recruiting class for 2012? They already have 12 commits and I think 10 are on the ESPN 150 list.

This doesnt make sense. Why a player from Texas would choose A&M over UT, OU, or LSU is beyond me. Hell even Texas Tech has a better record overall and putting players in the NFL the past 10 years then the Aggies.

Jackie Sherrill must have moved back to CS and writing checks again.

Their staff is just out-woking other staffs right now. They went on full attack mode for the 2012 prospects before the 2011 class was even done.

I agree.

But very few of those 12 are picking A&M over those other schools.

A&M is their only option.

Really? 10 ESPN 150 guys and A&M is their only choice? Do you realize how idiotic that sounds?

Mike Matthews was coveted by Texas and OU and USC, but he wants to follow his brothers and play for a great OL coach in Sherman.

Jaeveon Richardson is a 4 star WR that is wanted by all of the Big 12.

Green is a 4 star RB.. The Brenham guys we are landing are a direct head to head with Texas. Brandon Alexander, Malcom Brown and Tim Cole.

Any OL A&M gets is because the coaches have produced and developed great Olinemen. Its why Bruce Matthews directs his boys towards A&M.

When we land Trey Williams, there will be another gamebreaking RB.

It's not because of past successes that we are doing so well. It's because Sherman hired some new guys before the 2010 season who are hard workers, great tacticians and good recruiters. I'm referring to Nick Toth, Tim DeRuyter and Terrell Williams.

You could ask the same question about Texas, LSU and OU in the late 90s. They had been way down since the late 80s and recruiting suffered, but they hired the right coaches and recruiting started swinging their way.

A&M hired some new ones, showed progress in 2010 with 9 wins (up from 6 wins in 2009) and an expanded and renovated Kyle Field in 2012, and recruits are coming... A&M has always had the ability to recruit... why some of you are playing this "they've sucked for 10 years" therefore they shouldn't be able to recruit business is very short-sighted.

IMO some guys are getting the edge on the watch list partly because they're already committed to TAMU. Also, it'll be interesting to see how many of the 12 actually honor their commitments when all is said and done.

Not to mention, how many of those 12 will be on ESPN's Final Top-150?

If all 12 stick with TAMU and all 12 remain on the ESPN 150, then congrats to them. However, the odds of that happening are slim to none.

First off, the 10 players you claim to be in the ESPN 150 list, are actually on the ESPN 150 watchlist that is compiled from probably over 300 names. Having 10 on that list is still good though, but some of those might not even sniff the 150. Second, ESPN blows at player rankings, so their list means nothing IMO.

Maybe they're back to Trans A&M?

I'm kidding (sorta). It's always in the back of my mind that every time aggy has ever been successful NCAA sanctions have followed shortly thereafter.

Bingo.

I wasn't trying to trash your recruits but I was answering the original question about why a player would choose A&M over Oklahoma, LSU, or Texas. I'm notsaying they all such but when you sign, even a 4-star that Texas (or others) don't offer for some reason, you're not "beating them out" for said recruit.

Maybe they just don't have offers from those schools YET?

Happens a lot. Kid visits a school and jumps on the first offer he gets, then finds a better school and gets an offer. See ya....

This board crawls with recruiting savants.

Any Team ranking list right now should carry about the same credability as pre-seaon rankings in CFB and CBB. The ESPN recruiting board can’t be a black hole for 6 months, they have to put something out.

And, calling LA guys that don’t end up at LSU “scraps” should offend many on here, curiously it continues to happen.

Why am i very young or ignorant to think that? If a kid is offered by all 4 of those schools, A&M is a distant 4th.

The other 3 have great traditions and are state schools and all have won a NC in the past decade.

OU, LSU, and UT will be on TV 10 or 11 times this year across the country. My Aggie buddies complain that most of their games arent even on TV.

Outside of Texas, nobody gives a flying F about A&M. I know its hard for my aggie buddies to think this, they think everyone across the country gets them and their tradition. Truth is that its a Texas thing, if you arent from Texas or an alumni of A&M, they really arent that big of a name.

Plus when A&M's DC takes a head coaching job next offseason half of those Defensive recruits will jump ship.

No they won't. IF DeRuyter takes a head coaching job, and that's a big IF considering he has stated he won't take anything less than a BCS school head coaching gig (and it has to be the right one at that), then Nick Toth will be the new DC and he's one of our stud recruiters and better defensive coaches from a Xs and Os standpoint. He's also early 30s and a fiery SOB to boot.

Nick Toth is the main one along with Terrell Williams landing these kids.

And to your objection about A&M being a distant 4th... LSU was a distant 4th, 5th, 6th not too long ago, then they got the right coach and things turned around. A lot of you forget that LSU was absolutely terrible for 10 years with a couple of mediocre seasons sprinkled in... and on top of that it had been 40-50 years since their lone MNC.

Guys, all it takes is potential. You need to be in fertile recruiting grounds. You need the right coaches. And to a lesser extent you need the bells and whistles (facilities, large fanbase, gameday atmosphere, etc.) A&M has all of those, much like LSU did.

Will it happen? I have my doubts, but I'm also an Aggie pessimist, but to say its far fetched and not possible is ridiculous and jaded on your behalf.

Well it wasn't that long ago that A&M was handing annual losses to the likes of LSU and texas, and in the early days of the Big 12, OU as well.

A&M is not a distant 4th in terms of recruiting. That is wishful thinking on your part I'm afraid. Around the same time OU, texas, and LSU where/are being lead by the likes of Stoops, Brown, Saban, and Miles, A&M was dealing with the Fran era. Hell, even Fran had a couple of elite recruiting classes. A nine or ten win A&M team will out recruit every school in this country (with the exception of a split with texas) for high school kids in the state of Texas.

As for you're comment on tradition and state school, I'm not sure I even know how to respond to that.

A&M was on TV for 8/12 regular season games this year. Not bad for a team with a combined win count of 10 the previous 2 seasons. Here's a peak at one in particular: [url]LINK ]

With all due respect I've lived outside of the state of TX for the better part of a decade. You are indeed ignorant. Texas A&M is the 7th largest school in this country. It is a member of the American Association of Universities. You are letting your disdain for Aggies influence your opinion.

How many of those recruits were recruited by the DC?
