Safety play was much better.

People are over reacting. I saw blanket shots of the field, the wr's were covered pretty damn good for the most part. Robinson and white are beast.
They played better than last week, just up to par for LSU yet.

I thought Martin made some good pays, but he looks like he is still earning.
Thompson not so much.
I guess we all see different things when watching games.
Lamar Louis(sp) looks tough.
All in all the defense looked in place most of the plays, except in the middle as usual, just aren't hitting hard enough.

LSU needs that smash mouth defense we have grown accustom to seeing over the last several years...

My identity, and that of the LSU football coach, are not the same, I can tell you. My identity, and that of my family is significantly different than that of our damn strong football coach, who finishes first on the gridiron consistently. I promise you.

Freak's could get in first just on name recognition alone. Did yall watch the first round last year? I think after the bye, he'll be playing at a higher level. I'm thinking he'll finish 40+ tackles, 9.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks and a INT. That's a good season and name recognition will get him first round.

Right now he has 21 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 1 sack and an INT.

He could explode the next half of the schedule though and be even better.

the biggest problem is inexperience. on both td passes, white and thompson were in good position but did not know how to make the play. inexperience. martin looked better and robinson looked better. the second biggest problem is no pass rush. third, superstar talent.

Freak has high mock value right now. I think he's played well considering the doubles he takes.

There are a few things really hurting Freak. Chavis hardly ever blitz with the LB's so the OL never has to worry about breaking off to pick them up. Freak is always Double Teamed. Also other than Kwon our LB's are not very physical. They don't plug a lot of holes. This keeps the RB's from having to hesitate. That is when a lot of quick DT's make plays. Our DE's do not keep containment very well so when a running play goes outside it is hardly ever forced back inside. Our DE's also do not have to be double teamed so they just double team Freak and Ego. Then the biggest thing is no depth at DT. Freak plays way to many plays especially when he is getting double teamed every one of them. Both he and Ego will be much better pros than college players.

Thompson is learning quickly and is an upgrade, Martin played better. Hootie and Battle will help.

Freak didn't get as doubled as much against MSU and he took advantage of it. But I agree, people are selling him short. I'm just shocked we aren't recruiting more LBs. It's clearly a major weakness and obviously Chavis has no confidence in the younger guys if they can't put Welter on the bench permanently. I don't know what happened to Barrow but he has looked really bad at times this year too.

DT will be a major concern next year. We don't know how the development of the younger guys is going. Mickey Johnson can't even get into the game and we don't know how Bain/Gilmore are doing. I think we'll be ok on the edges. Hunter has a lot of potential and is still learning. Don't know what's wrong with Rasco but I'd have to imagine his injury is slowing him down. With the recent dline class we got plus the incoming one, I'd have to think somebody will emerge on the edge. DT will be a big question next year though. Secondary should be good...in theory. With that big LB class we got a few years ago somebody has to emerge besides Kwon...

It starts up front though. Until we get consistency there the secondary will continue to struggle with no pass rush. We need S, DTs and LBs. Maybe Willis could slide inside if he keeps growing.

could he start over Loston who:

(go back to when he was a hs senior) could start immediately in LSU's secondary?

this is a bit of an overstatement.

I agree, he looked bad on that play in the EZ where he pulled up to avoid PI, but it was a nice throw. With expirience he'll learn, even if it is PI, that's better than a TD.

I also like how people disregard Jefferson, because 6 games into his freshman year he hasn't become Eric Ried and its worth noting over the years LSU has had several guys that get better as they get older.

Our 2015 secondary should be sick, maybe on par with the 2010-2011 secondaries. White, Robinson, Brown at CB, Thompson, Jefferson, Paris, Voorhies, hopefully Jones at S.

I agree with your main point, but it's not "especially" MLB, it's "only" MLB. It doesn't get much better than what we have at OLB; Kwon is AA material, and Barrow is a stud. Their backups are very good, also.

I'll tell you what happened, his dline started sucking. Playing LB behind a weak dline is like playing RB behind a weak oline. Kwon has the speed, quickness and instincts to maneuver around that crap. Barrow is more of a bruiser. Minter would have helped, but even he would have looked decidedly worse this year.
