During his commitment announcement, he mentioned to the announcer that his mother wanted him to go to Florida and his dad wanted LSU. His mom wanted Florida because of the academics. He asked the announcer if knew that LSU was not nationally accredited. What is that all about? That statement could hurt recruitment.

You're going to have to quote him for anyone to make sense of it.

I'm wondering if someone told him that Florida was AAU and LSU isn't (which is correct). Maybe he didn't know what that meant, and just assumed some sort of accreditation.

Can't remember the exact quote but that was essentially it. Maybe he was referring to his major but it didn't come across well.

Not sure. Maybe he meant that Florida is an AAU member ( Association of American Universities). It's not a big deal because only 4 SEC schools are members - Vandy, Mizzou, aTm, and Florida. I admit that it is prestigious; however, it does not mean that a university is unaccredited or mediocre.

I've always wondered what that meant. Why is it prestigious?

I somehow doubt that after nearly 150 years anyone is going to question that LSU is not a genuine nationally accredited university. Especially based on a statement from a high school recruit.

At least we know what Florida is saying about us during visits.

We can speak about our acreditations early and often so it never gets into a kids mind again. There are 4-5 acreditation boards, you only need one of them. Why go thru the trouble of having multiple?

I'm sure they have general studies or sports management at every university.

A membership in the AAU was a big thing upto mid 80s but in today's world, of instant and worldwide collaboration , focused areas of non-standard research, funding from non governmental sources, it has been rendered obsolete and existing merely due to inertia and a misplaced sense of tradition in prestige.

Nebraska was kicked out a few years back because their medical center was deemed to be (after couple of decades) too far from the main campus (hence becoming a separate institution in itself) to be accepted as part of the main and therefore didn't meet the criteria for a single institute.

It is not to say that there is no use - just that the perceived advantages to being in it are incremental and not substantial.

its not a big deal, just some bull shite smoke florida blew up his arse.....my source in the program told me last night that gilmore has been a silent to lsu the whole time, we just needed his mothers blessing (which we got). He went into the florida visit with very low expectations which caused him to be so "blown away" by them.

another note, each college within lsu (business, engineering, sceinces, etc.) are nationally accredited so its really semantics florida tried to fool him with

This. I'm pretty sure that every college, or a high percentage, of them have to be accredited for a school to get that recognition. It's a lame attempt by Muschamp that didn't work. Now that he mentioned that, Miles can assure Gilmore and his mother about this fact

LSU is not nationally accreditited.

LSU is regionally accredited.

Regionally is higher.

Wikipedia has a good synopsis of AAU. There are only 59 universities that are members. I agree with the poster on this thread that implied it is an over rated membership. I did hear it was one of the main reasons aTm and Mizzou were added.

Being that we're accredited by the Southern accreditation board, and that recruits know nothing about University accreditation, it's obvious the Florida is saying we're some sort of regional accreditation whereas they are nationally - simply because the A stands for American. Amazing.

In case any recruit is reading this: anyone accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is considered nationally accredited.

Whether the accrediting body is one of the 6 regional boards or one of the 5 that go to all regions doesn't matter at all. Not even a little bit.

Didn't Urban Meyer try to pull this lie during the recruitment of Terrence Tolliver?

it is a big deal and Louisiana/LSU should make it a priority to rise to that level. does what GG said matter? the only thing that matters is his name on the LOI because our undergraduate curriculum for the "league" is top notch.

geaux GG and thinks for becoming a Tiger.
