Let's say you are saying something about Mandel's death

You would post "#MandelaForever" or something along those lines. Typically, certain hash tag words will all start being used to give it popularity. For instance, you notice the "#hailstate" on MSU's sidelines. That's so everyone uses the same hashtag so it rises in the search index and popularity.

For the most part, twitter should only be used by celebrities, bloggers, writers, or websites to give people quick pieces of information.

I really like it so I can follow news sites, weather updates, and funny celebrities. It's really useful once you understand the layout/format. I really don't ever use it much to post my own thoughts/ideas.

Yep. For personal use like peer to peer, it's dumb unless you want all your friends to know something that you are directing at one person or just to be seen, when you can just text that. Interesting people or events, or products, sports updates, weather updates, etc, it's a good thing to get quick info out to everybody.
