Was not offering him Raymond or CEO idea. Goodrich wanted to commit on Sunday and probably on his official visit?

If people are wondering that when Ed O is our HC then I'm not sure what to tell them.

I think it will come back to bite lsu. CEO said he wants players who want to be at lsu. Goodrich wanted to be at lsu and you didn't offer

NOT saying that somebody is covering up for the Surtain family but I find in suspicious

Coach Raymond and O were burned by Surtain family. If they would have told the coaches this weekend Mario would be a tiger

There is always an element of getting burned in these last minute decisions. The jilted bride is left at the alter.

The safe bet, bird in hand decision would have been to accept the Goodrich commitment.

yep. If you have confidence in your ability to coach them up and utilize them (a.k.a. gameday coaching/scheming) you take a Goodrich, be happy, and let he chips fall where they may regarding Surtain.

Bama had very similar situation regarding depth chart. Bama took 4 CBs (3ea 4* and 1ea 5*). Surtain is the 5*; one of those is Savion.

So if the Staff went with the idea of if they accepted Goodrich's commitment because of 'scaring away Surtain', it was both a dumb strategy (didn't consider what ifs vs extreme consequences at the position) and a bad mentality. LSU needs to be more ruthless in it's recruiting, not buying into narratives (scaring players away) that leaves you completely exposed. That was a change from the late-Miles years that I expected to happen; it obviously did not.

I have almost as much problem with holding the spot for Foster and passing on Goodrich. Foster gave every indication he was going to FSU after his visit. He went to a conference foe in TAMU. Nothing in the perception or where he decided to go to said LSU. IF Goodrich did say he wanted in, and they declined for Foster having a commitment vs. negative info, that's just wishful thinking and 'hope', not good decision making.

We couldn't control Saban's negative recruiting OR what the Surtain's did. We COULD control our own actions and 'what if' contingencies. We gave that up.

1 scholarship was for a QB. 1 scholarship was for a CB. Foster committed to TAMU, so now they will look for a transfer at QB. Surtain committed to Bama, so they offered it to Goodrich.

Totally mismanaged. Greatest position of need and your only going to take one? Should not have been in this position with so few schollies left to have to choose btw him and Foster. When Goodrich wanted to commit I would have called Surtain or Foster and asked them to commit or else give the schollie to Goodrich. The man is over a $100 million empire and gets played by 17 year olds.

This will go down as the biggest mistake of the class. Goodrich is the real deal.

I'm ok with slow playing someone for a QB, but not when it's at the 12th hour and you may have only 3 scholarship CB's on next years roster. That is absolutely mind blowing. Just a complete dumb error that is inexcusable for a head coach and his recruiting coordinator.

Orgeron is too emotional to be in charge of this. He should've known something was wrong when we couldn't get an early signing day commitment. He has to run this like a business.

Assess your risk with certain recruits and plan accordingly. Trust shouldn't even enter into it. Be prepared for a recruit burning you and don't be left empty-handed. Recruits are into business for themselves so the school might as well take the same approach. Saban gets burned, Jimbo gets burned, every coach gets burned on these issues. The difference is those guys plan for it.

I'm surprised that someone that's as skilled at recruiting as O thinks he is doesn't approach it in this manner.

A mistake of epic proportions by someone that overvalues themselves and surrounds themselves with yes men.

In no Universe that you play football in should you think going into spring training with 3 cb's active on the roster and 1 still in the doghouse per his coach is an acceptable thing.

The mistake is in the overall decision making and lack of balance in the class.

Even in the end the poster above is correct - when Goodrich says that he wants in you keep him on the phone and have another coach call Foster and tell him that he needs to commit or his spot is gone. If he commits you got the qb you said you wanted barring a late flip that you can not control. If he does not commit you take Goodrich and move on.

The Head Coach has to maintain control of the things that he can control.

Coach O did not.
Simple as that.

All the whinning about Surtain etc and the other crap that LSU is feeding reporters is nothing more that deflection tactics to try appease whatever part of the fan base they can appease.

Pointing the finger at Alabama and the Surtain's is easy because most of the LSU fan base rightfully can not stand Alabama. The real issue is beating Alabama outcoaching Alabama and outrecruiting Alabama which We/Coach O have failed to do so far.

Own it in order to Fix it.

Not confident that Coach O can do it because he appears to be emotionally based and reactionary.

We will see.

My hope is that he can.

I don't give a rats arse what the coaches name is or where he is from or the players either for that matter.
I am an LSU alumni and LSU Fan not a Coach O fan or qb X fan.
Do your jobs as coaches and players win your positions and play like you care putting the Team first.

Really, once Surtain took the OV to Bama, Goodrich should have taken priority.

what SHOULD have happened was not taking so many 3 stars in the early signing period. take 2 less 3 stars early and we would have had plenty of room and Goodrich would be in BR.

Bama would not have gotten burned because they had other CBs signed.
