It's really hard to grade when you don't really know. I have noticed one thing. On most recruiting sites, they list the name of the recruiter. It always seems that at least Auburn and Bama have a name listed, but LSU does not. It seems odd. Now whose job is it to tell the services the name I have no clue.

I do know this, there is a lot of information out there now, players posting on Twitter, and on the pay services. Whether or not it is all worthwhile, not sure, but we should at least know everything that is going on with any player we are targeting and maybe some others. We should never just not know what is going on with a player.

Pay a student to monitor all this and put it in a daily recap report if something is there. Like the second Howard tweeted "Haven't heard from LSU" - if true - someone should have been alerted.

Can't put it all on CLM and the position coaches, they have more important things to do that to realtime monitor recruit's twitters. but someone should in this realtime day and age.

Ensminger- F. See above. I never got bringing him, if you're going to designate coach to TEs he better damn well be a great recruiter. Steve isn't....at all.

Someone remind me again why he is on our staff? Do his brats pop better coming off the grill than Studs do? Or is he here just to hold the watch on the sidelines?

id give krags a c+ just for putting in the effort in spite of all he's dealt with. hit the road and made some visits with les and frank apparently. seems like kiel really liked him until mama came callin.

Les isn't going to 'fire' anyone, you should know that.

He was brought in partly because he was a longtime QB coach. It was hoped that he could provide some type of QB tutoring because it was obvious Crowton was failing in that regard.

Sad when the best option for our QBs is to try and learn something from the TE coach. At least we have a QB coach now.

I like this staff alot, but there are some major, major deficiencies in their ability to recruit against the big guns from other schools.

Not talking about Wilson or Miles because they truly are the bellcows of the staff...but if you were to pit any combination of Stud/Ensminger/McGaughey against a Dameyune Craig, Eddie Gran, Trooper Taylor, Curtis Luper, Lance Thompson, Burton Burns...then LSU is already playing from behind.

Les

A.

He's a real closer, even if it hasn't come to pass this year.

B.

I give him a B because the strengths of his recruiting come more from his evaluation than his actual hitting the road. Also, that video of him recruiting Rasco last year proves he's not exactly a dunce when it comes to pitching a recruit.

Cooper-

A.

As a pure talent evaluator, he's maybe the best in the country. That's often more important than any recruiting pitch.

quote:

Frank Wilson

B+

If we're going to trumpet his NOLA connections and locking down the state, we have to consider the fact that the top player in state got out under his watch.

quote:

Brick Haley-

B+. Seems to win favor with a lot of recruits, but hasn't closed as well lately.

quote:

Thomas McGaughey-

Incomplete. Don't see any recruits attached to him.

quote:

Studrawa-

Probably a C-. He did get a few guys here and there.

quote:

Ensminger-

F. Haven't seen him do much of anything.

eta: I'm sure he brings something to the staff... perhaps administrative experience? But as a fan it's hard to see what exactly that is.

quote:

Krags-

B-.

He's a big reason Kiel even considered us. He even was trying to fly back up and visit him after he was waivering/switching. Krags has put us on the map of national QB recruits, which we weren't with Gary. Now he just needs to close.

like I said, I'm ok with having guys who aren't road warriors and do more of the behind the scenes evaluating because that is a huge aspect of it all. However, if you're going to have those types you can't afford to have guys like Ensminger, Stud, etc. doing next to nothing.

Yeah, Ensminger is rather puzzling.

There were some rumblings he may move into a strictly administrative role inside the Athletic Department, but not sure if that's going to come to pass.

That'd be great

I've seen Henson's name thrown around as returning. Steve to the office, Henson to OL, and someone with a good reputation as a recruiter to WR. That would up your game right there, Henson was pretty popular among recruits.

that would kind of suck for wilkerson though

That would be incredible. We could hire a OL/TE coach or and amazing recruiter. Maybe even a LB coach thats a good recruiter.

I'm not sure if he's ready, yet. Most guys don't go from their first GA stop to position coach at that school.

The Ensminger rumors were last year though, so not sure if there's anything to it..

Would love for Henson to come back, though.

If you look at Ensminger's History
he has been able to pull in some recruits.

I don't understand why he can't recruit at LSU.

I like him.
Les needs to seriously think about getting rid of Steve this year and maybe Stud next year.

Probably.

Eh. Regardless of his recruiting prowess, the offense under his watch (MNC game aside) was quite productive. We were markedly improved statistically, and one of the highest scoring offenses in LSU history.

I was just as disappointed as anyone in the MNC gameplan and execution, but it is just one game.

As anyone from LSU said anything about the timeframe for hiring a replacement for Gonzalez?

It's been 2 weeks now and not a peep.
