Abilene has to rebuild both lines from last year. They return their top 2 backs, qb and top reciever. The feeling was that last year that they were a year away. They ended up pulling a few upsets and won the 5A DII Championship. This year they are the target. Look for them to run multiple looks out of a 20 gun set. On defense they run a 3-2 with stand up players up and down the line.

They won't lose a game outside of Abilene in the reg season, and they have a shot in that one.

A shot? Yes. But, remember they are playing a full real game the week yall will be playing a jamboree. They will also have Texas rules and Texas reffs. They also don't have to travel 10+ hours in a bus. You may be underestimating Texas 5A.

I'm trying to remember the last LA team to win under those circumstances. West Monroe lost each time they played by Texas rules. Evangel won a time or two, but also got blasted a few times as well under those circumstances. The cut blocks make a HUGE difference and Franklinton will find this out unfortunately. I hope they win by 50, but it's tough to beat Texas by their rules.

Whoa! I am originally from Rayne, Louisiana and am a die hard LSU fan. I am in the Air Force stationed in Abilene, TX. Texas high school football is insane here! High school get better attendance than the college teams here. Abilene High has an outstanding team every year, and last year was loaded! But it was loaded with Juniors and Sophomores and won 5A championship easily! They will be nasty this year!!! There running back averages over 200 yards a game... and their defense is always tops in the state. Good luck Franklinton... If you win this, then you should be ranked in the top 5 nationally.

Neville beat the shite out of Marshall 2 years ago at their place but Marshall isn't in the same caliber as those other teams. Longview whipped our arse in 2003 with Malcolm Kelly, Trent Williams and Vondrell McGee. Kelly and Williams are in the NFL. McGee was a sophmore on that team and ran all over us the next year at Neville. He signed with Texas in 2006.

The rules can be adjusted to but the refs aren't gonna give any borderline calls to the Louisiana team.

WM beat Midland Lee 36-8, Tyler John Tyler 47-0, and Longview 21-14 with Federation Rules. They lost 42-14 to TJT and 21-0 to Longview under NCAA rules.

Are you guys more worried about the rules that the game will be played under, or the level of talent Abilene brings to the table?

2 big advantages for Abilene were listed by General. Texas starts a week earlier so they'll be playing their 2nd game while Franklinton is playing their first game. Playing by different rules that allow chop blocks. Chop blocks aren't legal in LA so the kids don't know how to throw them or fend them off. It will be the biggest difference in the game. It has been in every game I've seen between Texas/LA teams under NCAA rules.

At QB its probably even but at RB Simms is a good bit better than Josh Robinson. Abilene has to replace most of their lines but they will have a head start to try and work the kinks out.

Yep, hence the name on this site. My best friend over there was QB for Franklinton back when we were in school...... and he still lives there and keeps up with the program. He was a coach there until a few years ago. So I get updated quite often on the state of Franklinton football.

Honestly, we'll score just as many points, but every team is gonna be gunnin for us, and Salmen has us circled on their calendar. As for D, it is gonna be a little weaker but just like last year we'll score so many points it won't matter. In any year its takes luck as well as skill to get to the Dome. We've got a great shot to get back this year but won't be shocked if we don't.

Just to clarify, "chop blocks" are illegal in both Federation and NCAA rules, but NCAA allows blocking below the waist as long as it is not back towards the football. Does that make sense? Federation allows no blocking below the waist.

Someone asked about the date and time earlier, Abilene's schedule shows it as Sat, 4 Sep at 1pm. They are also playing Plant HS featuring Ely and Wilder on 16 Sep at Abilene. The week between Franklinton and Plant they travel to Cocoa, Fl. They are really stacking the schedule. They play Belton High the week before Franklinton.

their QB can play.

Ronnell Sims is the quarterback. He is Hershel's cousin.

He basically won the state championship game for them against Katy, the defending champ from 2008.

Ronnell had 215 yards rushing and touchdowns of 47, 11 and nine yards in that game!

Hershel had 105 yards on 13 carries including a 60 yard touchdown.

Franklinton doesn't need to worry about them passing but they better be able to play some tough run defense.

I think Ronnell will make a great running back for some college.

Franklinton didn't even play in a jamboree. It was scheduled to be held at FHS, but a tragic death of a student led to the cancellation of the jamboree. They scrimmaged Independence a few weeks ago, but that's all the action they've had other than practice.

Abilene dropped from 3 to 7 in the Rivals poll due to Belton exposing their secondary.

7 Abilene Abilene TX 1-0 3
The Eagles looked great offensively in their 36-27 win against a poor defense. Their secondary may be a weakness all year as Belton may have exposed.

As long as it isn't snowing, Salmen has a chance.
