There are several things that stand out when looking over this.

One there is no set standard on how these sites acheive there rankings. Last year Rivals had Alabama Number 1, Scout had them Number 2, and ESPN had them Number 3. In 2007 Rivals had Oklahoma Ranked 14th and Scout had them at 30!

Two, 3 of the last 4 years LSU has not been "Ranked" a top 5 class.

Three, even the great Saban has had years he was not ranked the best recruiter in the world.

Fourth, the numbers in () after the rivals rankings are the number of LA top 10 recruits that LSU and BAMA has pulled. We can see that LSU averages 7 each year of the states top 10 recruits. We can also see that this is not the first year that Alabama has grabbed some of our talent so no need to be alarmed that we lost two guys this year. (Also, Saban lost the #1 state recruit while coach at LSU)

And the last thing that I want to point out is that schools like USC, Notre Dame, FSU, and Miami have all had great ranked classes but at the end of the day it didnt matter.

What sticks out to me is our 2009 class is competing for championships..

it was top ranked!

Alabama has several #1 classes, and they are 2 time MNC champs...

This class is not on par with LSU standards.

We have to take it higher, because the boys up the street are not playing games

While I completely understand the point, threads like this remind me of when you're in the bathroom at the bar, looking in the mirror, trying to convince yourself you're not drunk...

I get what you are saying but take a look at that 2009to class. We were ranked that high because we had 4 5*recruits recruits. Of those 4 only one was a consistent contributor. So if u remove the other three from that class we lose the top ranking yet our production would be the same thanks to guys like brockers and mo who

Bama is our main competition year in and out and that game along will determine SEC and national titles.

The only question that needs to be asked after each recruiting season is did we get better than Bama with this class?

This year is a resounding, NO.

With that being said, LSU has enough talent to survive one bad recruiting year and remain elite.

If we have another similar class next year, it is officially time to really start to worry IMO. We need a Top 5 class next year in order to remain an elite program, particularly given what we will likely lose to the draft after next season.

True statement ... and not to write yet another Saban vs. Miles thread... but look at it.

LSU is the ONLY team to beat Bama under Saban more than once... and Les has a decent shot at making it 4 out of 7 (in 5 years) in 2012.

Looking closer at the games since Saban arrived at Bama...

2007 - LSU wins at Bama
2008 - Bama wins in BR but in OT --- Bama does not lose an SEC regular season game
2009 -- Bama wins at Bama --- LSU leads in the 4th quarter however loses players to injury and there are questionable calls that work against LSU. Again Bama does not lose an SEC game.
2010 - LSU wins in BR
2011 - LSU wins at Bama in OT and does not lose an SEC season game
2012 - BCS game --- Bama wins in NOLA

Of the 6 games - they are split 3 - 3 and all except the BCS game might have gone either way.

Looking at Bama's record vs. all of the SEC in those seasons... LSU fans should be pretty damn happy that we beat them more than anyone else has... and realistically it could have been at least 1 more, maybe 2.

Sure has and a primary reason he got 2 crystals in the last 3 years and puts multiple 1st rounders in the draft

Pretty sad that AL fans are laughing at us right now.

We are only currently 15th according to two. One has us showing at 7th. And we still have a few slots open that should bump us up a few more. Point is, we are still business as usual for now. Now if we have a few years of 15th ranked classes then we can talk differently.

And yet we are still competing with them each year. So far 3-3 against Saban. And we are going into 2012 preseason ranked #1 in most polls where as Bama is expected to see a decline for the most part. He may be outrecruiting us on paper but our teams are just as competitive and talented as his.

You need some perspective.

1. He got that 2nd crystal to the type of year in college football we experienced. Now, he won it, they won it out right. LSU got beat. But lets not act like they controlled their destiny right into the title game. Things had to happen

2. LSU is going to put 2 players in the first round this year....they've had first rounders all the time. I fail to see your concern.

3. Why would Bama fans be laughing at us? We're just as good a program as they are at this current date.
