How does a team that goes 4 - 8 (with a loss to Georgia Southern) and a head coach on the hot seat attract so many high profile recruits? Makes no sense to me, but what do I know!

Playing time at an elite SEC school. Those thinking that Florida having a down year would affect their ability to recruit are delusional.

This why recruits never put stock into single games like a lot of people on this board seem to think. A great season and they see opportunity to win a championship and get to the next level. A bad season and you can sell instant PT.

Moral of the story: It's all on how you can sell your bullshite in recruiting. A good recruiter can recruit studs regardless how good of a season you have.

I wouldn't even be mad if Jackson and Carter went to UF. Quite impressed if UF pulls that many 5 stars after going 4-8.

I'm pretty sure LSU's top recruiting ranking under Miles came in Feb 2009, fresh off the heels of his worst regular season -- that glorious Pick-Six season. Of course, LSU "tanked" that year at 8-5. 8-5 is a lot better than what Florida put on the field this year.

I think I get it.

LSU should go 4-8 this year so WE can win the Recruiting National Championship next year!

I get all of the points, however Lorenzo MAY have to sit (1) year at LSU worst case scenario. I believe if Florida (Muschamp) doesn't come in at least 2nd in the East in 2014, then they'll (Admins & fans) be doing the gator chop on his head.

I'm already calling it: the Florida head coach position will be the most desired open spot next off-season. That cupboard will be full for whoever follows Muschamp

They will go 6-6 next year (Losses to Bama, Us, Missouri, Georgia, South Carolina and FSU)and that will be all she wrote for Muschamp

How about recruits that want to go somewhere and make a difference?

People complain when recruits jump on the Bama bandwagon, then complain when recruits go to a rebuilding situation. Can't have it both ways.

I'm not even sure that an 8-4 season saves Muschamp. I think it's gotta be 9-2 or better.

This.

Even if Rasco and Hunter are penciled in as the starters, Carter would still likely see time here his true freshman year and would be competing for a starting spot his sophomore year

He would be LUCKY to even get to 8-4 with that schedule

Not complaining because Lorenzo was always a long shot for us. But Florida? Their offense even with Driskel returning will suck. Their season will ride on their very young defense. Why not go to Georgia or LSU who will be in the thick of the SEC race next year? Good Luck to him whoever he chooses!

I think you're missing the big picture and the cultural paradigm shift of elite college prospects. They want to get the league as soon as possible. If you can show out immediately at Florida (where you will get just as much pub as anywhere in the country)..then it makes perfect sense.

Not saying that championships don't matter either. You couple guaranteed early playing time with a school like Florida's ability to go from 0 to championship in as little as one year, then you can see the draw.

You assume that all kids prioritze winning the same as fans do. Some are in it for the $$$ they see because they all think they're going to the NFL. Some just want to show what they think they can do, as soon as possible.

I get what you're saying and you may be right. He's certainly going to a much more unstable program over LSU or Georgia, if he ultimately chooses Florida. He's got to know that (as well as his parents). My guess is Muschamp won't be able to right the ship next year enough to satisfy the powers that be and an entirely new coaching staff will be there for 2015. I say this not because I'm a homer, but I would make sure my kid was aware of the state of the Florida program because he's my son and I'm looking out for his future.

best connection does not mean it is his leader. The kid has been very guarded throughout this process, I doubt he is just giving a leader at this point in the game.

Actually I think it goes like UGA, FSU, LSU, UF at this point.

LSU is making up ground, make no mistake, and I expect to finish #2.

It's not that they had a down year; it's the fact that there's zero coaching stability. What if Muschamp gets canned and the new DC runs a 4-3 as opposed to a 3-4? What if Carter doesn't mesh with the new HC or support staff? UF is an elite program that will always attract top talent, but the future of that program is up in the air at best. Did you know that Ron Zook had a better overall record in his three years at UF than Muschamp in his first three years?

Quite frankly, I'm really surprised that Florida has done so well in recruiting since the season ended. No one thought Willis or Tabor would go to Florida, but they chose to because of what, exactly? It's not like UF is hurting for quality depth at DT and CB.

When you have a down season coaches feel more pressure to recruit more actively.

Hmmm, or he may not have to sit. It's up to him. There are wide open spots and we play 4 or 5 DEs regularly.
