Ellis looks like a smart and disciplined young man that could excel under Dave Aranda.

Come on down young Benedictine Cadet!

Ellis Brooks, Willie Gay, and Phillips what a turnaround that would be after losing the La boys and it not looking so good add to the fact that we were late on these guys and this would be a huge successful effort. Imagine what we can do next year? Also LSU needs to change up their strategy a little IMO, especially at positions of need like this. LSU needs to start taking the best recruits they can get from the get go and if the main guys still want in then we either make room or ask the previous guys to decommit. I mean that's how you get the best players to commit put the pressure on them. That's also how you get the real Tigers here, the guys that want to play for LSU. Offer the best 10 guys and take who comes, then play with the numbers later. We can't be stuck out like this every year makes us look desperate when we really aren't. Go get em O

I agree with that with the acknowledgment it can be done smartly (with a high degree of organization) and in many more ways disastrously.

But there is a HUGE caveat:
To cast the wider net and make home state less of a factor, your recruiting costs shoot way up. Admin has to be on board, including F King and his grabs for the surplus (or shutting down projects to create more surplus). Don't try it if there isn't agreement beforehand. Can't be left hanging with asses in the wind.

If LSU wants to compete with Shorty we're going to have to spend the money to bring in these type players from all over the country...just the facts!

Coach O gonna show mama how good LSU will be to his son. And if he desires his family to be present for the OV, he obviously has serious love for LSU and wants his family to love it as well and back him up. This is outstanding!

If the cost ever becomes an issue at the level LSU is recruiting and competing then we may as well consign ourselves to being a perpetual secon tier program.

How much more could this possibly cost? $100K? $200K? $250K? The athletic program turns an incredible profit every year and contributes a large sum to the academic coffers. There is more than ample funding to handle enhanced recruiting costs if that is what is needed.

The impact on overall contributions to the university is incredible when LSU football does well. It would more than pay for itself.

Idk why you got all the downvotes bc its at least an intelligent response. So much of recruiting is just paying attention to these guys and making them feel like a priority, of course for the big board boys you go visit, send flowers to mom for birthdays ect. The others further down you call, email, send letters or LSU gear. LSU wouldn't have to spend that much more money, it's more about effort. Phone calls at the right times, visits when they count, and getting them on campus as much as possible anyway you can. LSU can and should spend more time and effort on recruiting with that, money along with. LA is loaded with talent every year in certain areas so hit those weak areas hard nation wide then get LAs best. At the same time you continue to recruit everyone you feel fits. You never purposely turn down a recruit bc there is another higher up, not at a position of great need. If you have tons of talent there, HELL YES you do that, but you take what you can get if you need that position.

Say we would have gotten Willie Gay or Ellis Brooks or the Philips cat earlier in the year, not only does it look positive but it also puts pressure on Allen, Moses or whom ever to commit. If you don't get those guys your good, now you can recruit another position harder. It also makes that recruit think he's missing out on something if not this class the next will take notice. What could go wrong? You get a player like Willie G instead of Moses? I'll take that instead of the situation we'er in now. Same with the RB position, any position. Build that momentum from the get go and then you can still tell that recruit hey look it just isn't going to work out with the numbers this year, but you have the option to grey shirt and stay if you like and we make up for that money by getting you a first round ticket to the NFL and you play for the best coaches in the country bc now we can honestly say that. IMO it's better than Bama's staff, Saban evens that out but as a whole LSU is the best. LSU might want to look at building some kind of recruiting review staff that looks at the guys they recruit real close and personal so when you send your letter it's on a day he's most impacted, like a birthday or mom gets flowers on her birthday, sister, who Evers he's closest to. Get to know these guys personally and be most impressionable. That's how you tear up the recruiting trail across the country. Nail these guys down make it hard to say no to your school. Winning helps but being impressionable makes the most impact not winning and that's a fact! GT

Exactly it would be like hiring another coach basically, or it would give you that kind of advantage. It would then pay for it's self ten fold.

That he means he is very serious but also he values the input of his family. I hope they all have a great time.

Definitely shows he and his family are committed to listening to what LSU has to offer. Young man has some other great offers, to include ND and Mich. I get the feeling he (and his family) are seeking a high-end education/degree as well as the opportunity to play top ten FB. Sounds like the type of individual and family you want in the program. GT!

admin hasn't been on board for years and Miles didn't really push it. I had griped about it for years.

O will push it and already has.

Things are changing with recruiting in a very positive way. People don't realize that new blood (due to coach O) is energizing the program. O knew what was needed to compete, told Aranda, and is executing. He will build a shadow staff and significantly increase the time and effort on recruiting. People joke about the binder, but that was all in there. O's binder broke down for the administration what is necessary to compete with the Alabama's and Ohio States.

Yes to all of the above

We will never reach the budget that Alabama has, but its silly to have such a low budget and expect similar results. I hope O is relentless about getting it expanded.
