there are thousands of 2's.
hundreds of threes,
several dozen 4's.
there are only 25 to 35 five stars every year.

Sure they do as a group. One players star rating doesn't matter as much. I don't know the exact numbers and we have four groups that award stars. Usually about 20 consensus 5 stars a year(all four of the services gave the player a 5). Then about 40 or 50 players that earned from 1 to 3 5 star ranking. About 150 more are consensus 4 stars with about 200 to 250 picking up at least 1 and as many as 3, 4 star ranking(s).
In other words, less than 500 players per year of all the kids that play high school football in the US obtain a 4/5 star status.
Stars do matter if one accepts the fact that some 5 star players and many 4 star players will be busts or decent players that contribute some to their college team and are considered disappointments because of the star rating. Actually, this years 1st round had a higher % of 4/5 players than most.

Do Stars Matter?
Ask Alabama

This ridiculous post comes up 4-5 times a year. Of course they matter. Look at the 2012 five stars. This post is designed to provide actual proof, however obvious it may already be, to kill this topic forever.
Mario Edwards - FSU, raiders
Dorial Green Beckham - Missouri, Titans
Landon Collins - bama, Giants
Arik Armstead-Oregon, 49ers
dj humphries- Florida, cardinals
Shaq Thompson- Washington, Panthers
Malcolm brown- Texas, undrafted but made Rams 53 man roster
Eddie Williams - Alabama - kicked off team after beating up a kid and larceny. Sentenced to 5 years probation.
Johnathan gray- Texas, tore both Achilles at different times. Still trying to make league. Tough injury plagued career.
Stefon Diggs- Maryland,Vikings
Kyle Murphy-Stanford,packers
Noah spence- OSU, drug rehab, then Buccaneers
TJ Yeldon- Alabama, Jaguars
Eddie Goldman - FSU, Da bears
Dante Fowler - Florida, Jaguars
Ronald Darby - FSU, Bills
Deontay Greenberry - UH, free agent no major off field issues
javonte magee - Baylor, off field issues kicked off team. Not sure of current status.
Ryan Anderson-Alabama, will likely be drafted next year
Adolphus washington - OSU, Bills
Keith Marshall-Georgia,Bills
eli harold - virginia, 49ers
Darius Hamilton - Rutgers, injured, will return for senior year and is expected to be drafted
Gunner Kiel - noted dame, cincinnati Bearcats- currently #4 qb on 2017 draft board
Trey Williams - Texas a and m, Colts
So, unless you are just a complete POS and get arrested, or tear both Achilles ALL but one of these guys is currently on a NFL roster.
Put another way, which is what really matters, is there a single person on this list you would not have wanted playing for the Tigers? With the exception of the off field stuff, the answer is obvious.

We go over this shite every year. There are a much smaller % that are 5*s
Yeah. The better way to do this would be to calculate the percentage drafted of 5*s, 4*s, etc. from the class.

4*- 17
Out of ~250-300 a year

3*- 4
Out of ~500-600 a year
So:
-17% of 5*s went in the first round
-7% of 4*s
-.8% of 3*s.

I'm only counting 4 5* players in the first round not 5.

Yes they matter
But an accurate measure is NCAA team accomplishments
If you look at perennial contenders, they have the best recruiting rankings.

Of course stars matter.
Every element in the universe was made from them.
Every prospect is made out of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen.

Stars and coaching matter.
Teaching a star to be humble and be their best is very important.
The stars that haven't learned life skills usually falter.
My question, Is that happening at LSU?
Are you stupid or just plain dumb?
