Yeah, he was. Rivals used to do those in-depth position breakdowns and give a top 5 for different attributes. Mathieu got the highest cover grade. They may still do that, I don't know.

ETA: Looking at the link though seems to give more creedence to the skeptics, when you look at the rest of the names.

I stand corrected as well. I retract this: and I retract my smart arse "Uhhhh, no he wasnt" remark.

Underwhelming offer list, especially for the #1 cover skills CB......

What's even more insane is that since he gave up something like 4 catches for around 60 yards and no tds in the title game, he became "terrible in coverage".

that may be and he's not a "lock down" corner, but to say his coverage skills are dog shite is completely false.

There was a good article written too at one point that detailed his cover skills after his first 2 seasons. Mostly because he got this inane "he cant cover" tag after people saw him in the NCG for the first time. Going by the numbers, he was definitely a very good cover corner. Not elite, but definitely very good. Wish I still had that article handy.

Well his recruiting really didn't pick up until late, when he was blowing people away with his coverage skills on the camp circuit.

He was pretty unknown but blew up due to being a camp warrior IIRC

It was the Tennessee camp where he blew up I think. I believe he had just, or was about to commit to LSU when this camp happened. Not completely sure though.

Well you have that with 4-5 other girls that are good looking, but nothing really to write home about. But this one night stand is possibly with the best looking girl you have seen your whole life at your school and would give you serious bragging rights

And I didn't realize I was in a Mathieu thread. Could have sworn looking at the topic this is about "The Real Deal" D'Haquille

He was largely ignored because of his size and the fact he got press during his senior year. By the point he was committed LSU, no other offer mattered.

I can read just fine. There isn't many people who said LSU wasn't interested.

Being a WR, we'll have to wait until A&M allows him to consider us.

why not both??

Becuase that 's not really an option. You have 25 spots, why use 1 for a quickie, when you can use it for a longer term arrangement?

Clearly you take that option in 2012 but the situation is now different since we should have that role covered in 2014 between Dural, Peterson and hopefully Dupree and Blacknall.

assuiming his 247 rating is pretty accurate. you do not turn down a player rated a perfect 100.

Because I don't see Upchurch sticking it out if we get our 4 WRs (Dupre, Noil, Quinn, Blacknall) plus D'Haquille, here's a situation:

Would you take 1 year of D'Haquille over 4-5 of Upchurch knowing you will likely get one hell of a year from D'Haquille while no one knows what Upchurch will do?
